Brand new water pump squeal?

Hey Everyone,

I bought a new water pump for my 1956 Ford 640, as the one currently on the tractor had a high pitch squeak, and had a slow coolant leak. With the cold Canadian winter over, I decided to replace the pump today.

I put the new pump on, with a TINY bit of RTV on the gasket and reassembled the tractor. I made sure everything was where it was supposed to be and fired it up.

The fan was rubbing ever so slightly on the shroud (even though i triple checked) on start up. After testing it a few more times I managed to eliminate the fan rubbing. It did not leak a single drop of coolant, so I figured it was a job well done.

Everything seemed to be working great until a few minutes went by and a VERY loud squealing/whining came from the tractor. I thought maybe it was the new belt so put the old one on. Nope, still squealing. I took the belt off and spun the fan/water pump by hand and sure enough it squealed and whined. Is my brand new water pump ruined??

Before I put it on I double checked to make sure it was the exact same as the old one. As well, I spun it 20-30 times by hand and it was tight, smooth, and silent unlike my old pump.

Anyone here ever get a bad water pump BRAND NEW out of the box? I'm pretty frustrated and am not sure if I'm missing something.
