high rpm massey 444

how can i make my massey 444 run REALLY HIGH RPM'S my engine is bone stock and i am running around 3,000rpm by putting a tight spring on the govoner arm and if you would like to see it run look at my instagram adrian gesin i(i am on a tractor)

I think you better talk to some others on here before you kill yourself or others.

That has quite a massive flywheel, I do not know how much RPM it can take. I take mine up to about 1600, but that is tight and it has forged pistons in it.

The local pulls around here have a 3000 RPM limit, and as David said you're asking for trouble going over that with a stock cast flywheel. NOT pretty when it explodes and cuts the tractor in half. Steel flywheels and safety blankets are used for that reason. Google the IH tractor pull explosion video in California..

Dont ruin a good engine for 2 minutes of trying to impressing the crowd, that has a 5 1/2 in stroke, to long for high rpm, a Oliver might take it, that's a 4 inch stroke.

Most that are running those rpms eliminate the governors and
hook direct to the carb. You are definitely in the range where
you could blow up your flywheel.

Your pulling club may have some limits and safety requirements for each class of pullers. Hurling chunks of broken metal into a crowd of spectators could be a very very costly miscalculation.

Do you just want to blow it up or do you want this to be something reliable? If you're out by yourself and you just want to blow it up for fun, disconnect the governor and wire the throttle on the carburetor wide open. Whatever you get, you get.

Google something like .... "Top Fuel Dragsters and Funny Cars" .... that might be more to your liking that lighting it up with a 65 year old tractor ..... LOL !!!

If you want to spend about $20,000 you might safely turn 4000 rpms...It would have to be balanced, have a counterweighted crank with a girdle, custom rods and
pistons, cam, head work,etc...45 years ago there used to be some turboed 44 Masseys in my area with a bunch of work that probably turned as much 3000-3500
rpms..They just aren't a high rpm engine..

I have seen some 4000-5000 rpm M Farmalls...See Binderlite Super MTA on youtube.

I hope you have enough sense to listen to the posters here.

You are soundly in the area of killing someone with those RPMS. On a practical note, those engines are limited on air due to small valves, so higher RPM does not gain you anything. I think Goldburg has a head with bigger valves installed. In retrospect I should have bought one of those when I redid my MH44 EFI, or gone with standard pistons and turbo, as it runs out of air at 1600 RPM.

I built and pulled 44 masseys of over 20 years, you do not need rpms you need head work. The stock
head has to have a lot of work.We actually stretched the block to get more cubic inches but head
work is you cheapest horse power in that engine. Anything over about 3000 rpms you are an accident
fixing to happen.

I have witnessed a flywheel exploding that took out two spectators. Pcs went thru the announcer's stand and the fish and chip truck that was a good 200 feet from the track. -just sayin...

JM-i talked to goldsburg and he told me to get a coustom billet block with 5 main bearings and i am shooting for upper 300's hp range if it can be done

444 ..... what exactly is your objective with all of this 444? To win a $5 plastic trophy at a tractor pull? Sorry, I just don't get it. Are you really serious or maybe just dreaming a bit? No offense meant.

Crazy Horse, our tractor pull must be high class then, we get metal trophies! Lol, just ribbing you. One of the reasons I like pulling with my Oliver 990 - it sounds fast, but its not going to hurt anybody in stock form. Except maybe hearing, but hey, I did my part and put the muffler back on it!

To the OP - to each their own. Personally, what I like most about the old Masseys, is not what they can pull with huge RPM, but what they can pull with the last few hundred RPM. Surprisingly potent luggers, those 4 cylinder Masseys.

The other posters have better explained the process of making a puller than I can. I will say though, there is a very good reason for all the safety cages/shields on super-modified pullers. For every piece of safety equipment/rule, someone has a been hurt or killed. Bear that in mind.

Agreed,

Stock head without turbo is extremely limited, would do mine different if not so far into it.

you didn't like what I and the others told you on he pulling forum so u asked here and got the same answers. rpm don't win pulls. sounds like you have never been on a track.
