888 Wheel Hubs and Bearings

I have a lot of 6 lug hubs on running gears that are 888 hub. Seems they are the more common. I have a lowboy with 777 hub. I don t know if calling hubs by these numbers are a local thing or not. I haven t got new bearings or races but the inside bearing piece I have left is turning on the spindle. Not sure a new bearing is going to stop this. I think I ve read where someone was using a Loctite product on jd baler shafts to stop the play? Suggestions?

Loose bearing races (inside, or out) will cause early failure, and or spindle breakage. If the difference in diameter,
measured accurately, is more than .001, the goo supplied to assist mounting will not be likely to work. Locktite stud and
bearing mount is one product. If it is used, and the trailer or? is used to rated capacity, I would be checking the wheel
for looseness quite often. maybe as much as every time for the first 2 or three trips. then less as it seems to be OK. but
at least every 5 trips or so. I never heard of that hub numbering system, but it could be for specific brand of axle. Jim

Depending on the looseness of the bearing on the spindle I have used a punch and punched the bottom of the spindle and on top some. This will raise some metal on the surface then with whatever magic goo you choose to use to hold it after reassembly. IF the bearing will slide over the punch marks after punching it is time for either a weld up and turn down or new spindle. spindles can be had pretty reasonably. Shoup has them foe a generic fit. Or you can get the whole thing hub abd spindle which ever way you want.
