My sons super -M has a sharlynn power steering unit -- slowly on it got to the point where the pump squeels a bit and it wont steer! is the pump at fault or is it the motor -- Roy

Agree with 2late. Did you check the fluid? Should work fine with an inch or so in there if it is the pump normally supplied with one of those set-ups, separate reservoir about 5? in diameter 2 and a half to 3 in. deep and wing nut lid. Normal level is an inch to three quarter in. from top. Belt is good, has to be fairly tight and you don?t see it slipping? By the way it is Char-lynn.

IF this has a separate oil resivour with the wnig nut and lid there is a good chance there is a filter in there. There are now a few things to check, oil level, filter if low or not, belt tightness, and if it is the pump, or if there is something else causing the relief valve to pass oil making a squeal as you put it.

I will add one more possibility. check bolts that secure torque generator to guage cluster and support. The ones on my SMTA have come loose in the past
