GoPro Recommendation or Something Else?

For our farm videos, we use a camcorder and iPhone. I did a video recently moving around some equipment (video in another thread) and it was a pain holding the iPhone.

Anyone use a GoPro around the farm vs an iPhone or android phone?

I?m thinking I need to get myself a GoPro with some kind of magnetic mount and some sort of short stick mount for hand holding the camera.

I?ve been reading and looking at the GoPro 7 Black and Silver models. Not sure I want to spend the $$$ on the GoPro 8, but could be talked into it...

The 7 Black has my attention vs the 7 silver because - if I understand correctly, it has image stabilization and a replaceable battery.

Image stabilization would be great if it truly takes out vibration movement from being mounted to a tractor and equipment.

Replaceable battery would be nice to allow continuous taking videos.

Any recommendations for a GoPro 7 Black or Silver or another model such as the Gopro 8 or another video camera for recording our farming videos is much appreciated.

I have a GoPro and love it. I have a helmet mount for riding the motorcycle and a clip on mount that clamps to the bill of my baseball style hat. Also, mounts for other uses. Have mounted it to crab traps for filming crabs under seawater and it worked great (about 20 feet deep). It also has motion stabilization so you don't get that jerky/rough video.

Here is a link to my recording using a GoPro while driving the ATV.

I have the same issues. I am not much of a techie, but needed a video/still camera to shoot pictures of horses and tractors and grandkids.
I ended up buying a Sanyo Xacti camera on ebay. Not Hollywood quality but plenty good for my needs. Small and very easy to use. Downloads to
laptop, hole in bottom makes for easy mount on a tripod or a swivel magnetic holder (amazon) on a tractor fender. I ended up buying several more, one for each truck and car glovebox. Should be available for under $30.

I have the GoPro Hero. Cant stand the fisheye distortion. Yes I know there's software to edit that out but I'm a techie wanna be and dont have the patience for video editing software.

MasseyHarrisGuy, I don't know what "fisheye distortion" is. Do you see it on my video that I linked?

I just posted the video straight from my GoPro to utube....no editing.

Thanks for the reply, very smooth video. Never thought about a head mounted video camera, good idea.

Thanks for the replies. I wound-up ordering today a DJI Action Camera. I should have it Tuesday and will give it a workout next weekend. Some of the deciding factors was (from what I read) ease of use, forward facing display (for selfie type videos) and a friend that uses one said the mic handles wind noise better. Now if I can decide if I want to buy a Skydio 2 drone...

Thanks again!

We use SJ Cam helmet/handlebar cameras. Similar to gopro but a fraction of the cost. Lots of features and high quality videos

The "fisheye setting" is what I like best on mine. You can change that in the settings. Or at least I can on my Gopro. And its old.

I'm too late to this thread to influence your choice of camera but I'll just put in a good word for the old Gopro white edition I bought several years ago. It has worked great for most of my youtube videos. I even did one short segment underwater with no damage. For most of the video I'll use the "skeleton" door on the back of the case so it picks up sound better. Suction mount works good on any smooth surface but I find most of the time I have the adjustable clamp and arm that will adjust to grip onto various places or just as hand held. I've also got the chest mount harness which is really handy for hands free shooting. The battery lasts a long time except in some of our extreme cold weather. No image stabilization on it that I know of but it does not seem to be a problem.

Thats just a simple setting in the menu on the Gopro if you want to change it. I like that wide angle view myself.

Yes, Gopro is what I use for most of my videos. With the "skeleton" case it picks up sound way better than the I phone. Plus it has so many options for holders. I like the hands free method of shooting when I wear mine on the chest harness. I watch some of these guys trying to record them selves working one handed while they hold the phone or camera in the other and just think if I had to do it that way I would not make many videos.
And yes , with the waterproof case I have run mine under water briefly and it worked fine with no leaks. Great little camera that i've had for more years than I can remember.
