Fuel Prices for Operating Your Equipment

Happy Easter. My easter bunny was that I mudded in this years hay crop with no tilling using a "tilling" type old JD drill. The sprigs are up to 2 inches and doing great. The rains are coming perfectly for this to work and getting a crop before the Sugar Cane Aphids hit me, usually around 4th of July.

In my virtual coffee shop environment this morning I ran across this article from a syndicated local news paper and thought you might be interested since I have seen postings of folks thinking about getting some large/larger containers to enjoy current fuel prices. In short don't bother, it will/forecast to be low for a couple of years!

Just got done pressure testing a 275 gallon fuel oil tank (it's good) I'm going to fill in addition to my other tank.

I'm small time, maybe 350 gallons of diesel a year, so this will give me a little cushion.

Boeing says a 747 burns 5 gallons of fuel per mile, so the longer we can keep those things on the ground the more fuel we will save up, the less we will pollute the air. And the cheaper gas and diesel fuel will stay. Trucks are still running, and diesel prices have not come down like gasoline.
But once the airlines start running the cheap gas will end. Oil companies don't really need a good reason to raise prices, any old line of BS works.

Saudi Arabia and Russia have a lot to do with this, To start a trade war during an epidemic doesn't work so well. I would imagine the tar sands operations in Alberta are all shut down, they can't produce for $23!

Oil companies do not set the price of oil if they did it wouldn't be under $25 barrel, oil prices are set on the open market by how much commodity traders are willing to pay and sell for.Fuel prices are also set by commodity markets(auction). You can easily check the wholesale price of either.

Our family farm uses a lot of fuel,,using a 20,000 gallon off road storage tank, our distributor helped us fill out the paper work to contract next years fuel at today's low price,,no payment till next year,, some may want to look into this now, near $1.50 a gallon cheaper than normal..

Dr. Evil, actually oil companies do have a good reason for not raising prices. If they raise them too much nobody buys. Pretty much the same as everything else in the world.

Topic on pricing: don't forget to thank your state governor..... He/she wants their taxes ! Printed right there on the pump.

Wingnuttx, actually most governors are politicians. They have to get elected to their office. Tax increases are generally seen as unpopular, thus politicians don't like to be associated with tax increases. However, state residents such as yourself demand services and thus the money to pay for them.

Most of the oil sands operations in northern AB are still operating. A lot of oil is sold on longer term contracts or is hedged so the spot price only applies to the marginal barrel. A lot of these operation need to be kept in continuous production and can't shut down quickly. That said they are looking for ways to cut production because they are not viable for long at these oil prices.

The longer those Boeing stay on the ground the worse off our economy becomes. Those low oil prices might feel good when you are at the pump buying, but they are not healthy for our economic well being. Any sector that is suffering has an effect on all other sectors and the overall economy. Jobs are lost, retirement accounts are down, Local state and federal tax revenues lost, business's that support those industries suffer. Oil companies do not set the price for their product, the market sets the price. Any farmer should have an understanding of how the future's market works. Its the educators, media, and the nnalert that seem to have a difficult time understanding how a capitalist market works.
