First saw him in a very small show while I was in college and followed him ever since. Heartbreaking.

As Don McClain said " but something touched me deep inside, the day, the music died." I've seen John at least four times over the years and have most of his releases. I think they will all get played the next few days. Rest in peace John.......Ron

He was a song writer, been around since the 70's.

One of those you have to listen to the lyrics. A beautiful mind.

John Prine, wonderful songwriter/singer.
Just listen to his songs and you can see his mind works differently than that of the average person.
One of my favorites: "In Spite of Ourselves" with Iris Dement.
A great loss!

What a shock. He only had one lung from an earlier fight with cancer. I saw him at a small auditorium in the late 80's with a guitar player named Phillip Donnelly (below, left) on a Stratocaster. Just the two of them went though his best songs. Blew me away.
