Over Thinking

Over Thinking can get you into trouble.
I decided to put axles back in. Over
Filled rear end will 10w30.
This way I can test seals on axle, pinion and tube.

So far no leaks.

Sometimes you get a leaky roof but the leak isn't directly above where the leak is.

I think I have a hydraulic leak that ran down a hose and dripped on the tube.

Going to

Tip it other way tomorrow and check other seal and tube for leaking.

So far I'm winning.

Waiting for separator.
Hopefully I can do as Bob recommend. Replaced the gears, get a shim same thickness as the one that broke.

Which "shim" broke?

HOPEFULLY, not one between a side bearing cone and the carrier?

If one of the thrust washers next to one of the spider gears or side gears, they will come in the differential kit, and are NOT selective fit.

You will be surprised once you get the new differential gears installed in the carrier just how loose those parts are. Nothing to shim or "set up" in that area.

Its the washer on the right side not to the bearings. Can I get one?

Not sure about the one on the left.

Just to be 100% clear, is the shim Key #3, or one of the washers in kit #14?

If one of the Key #3 shims, that could be bad, may indicate the bearing cone (inner part od Key #2) is worn loose where ot presses onto the carrier.

Normally, those "side bearings" are a pretty tight "press fit" onto the carrier.

I HOPE that's not an issue on yours!
