Cleaning out old - setting up new pickup

I finally pulled the trigger on a new pickup. Probably be the last one for me, I expect it to haul tractors as long as I need to. I started cleaning out the old truck, I'm keeping it but wanted to transfer some stuff to the new one. Good reason to give it a cleaning, I've found tools I forgot I owned. And boxes of ammo, I must have found 20 boxes of .22 and .223 hidden away in all the little storage pockets. And about $10 in change. Nuts, bolts, hardware of all kinds; a broken wristwatch and a pink ladies scarf (where in he!! did that come from? - threw it in the trash before wife seen it). Three sets of jumper cables, couple flashlights, new sweatshirt still in the bag, and last year's license tags that I had not put on the plate. I wondered what happened to them.

Now comes the hard part, trying to keep the new truck from becoming the same mess. This one has the RamBox option which is the reason I went with Ram in the first place, just for trying to keep my stuff organized. This truck also has many compartments throughout, problem is remembering what I put in them. Has a real nice rifle box behind the back seat, no problem remembering what is in there. Sure is quieter than the old truck. Its a Ram 2500 heavy duty with air suspension, 5.7 gas, and 3.73 gears. Lots of electronics that hook to my phone, still figuring all that out. My son shut off the seat belt dinger for me, which is wonderful. I think I'll like it.

I really like the "ram boxes". Wish more manufacturers would do that. Sometimes I use a ram 1500 for work, I have to say I like it alot.

Were you able to get the 0% long term and differed payment options so many are giving right now ?

No, I went with the credit union. Once you read all the details for the special rates and going out 84 months it just didn't feel right for me. I am looking at near term retirement so I want no payments any longer than absolutely necessary.

If you can wait for year end 0% dealer deals.
They also seem to happen. 60 months.

I left my money in annuity pay 5% regardless of what the market does.

I annunitized when the market was doing well.

So my Kobota came with 0% 60 month financings.
My Annuities are paying for the Kubota and I'll get a fixed amount from my investment for the rest of my life.

1996 GMC 3500 4x4 dually. 454 vortec. I seriously love this truck, it has the best seats. GM knows how to design a seat to be comfortable, day long road trips and no complaints. The Ram seat seems to fit me well but I haven't had it on a all day trip yet either. This picture was taken a few years ago, after it was in the body shop for repair. Since then the rust has set in and and its getting pretty bad. And the paint is falling off all over. I like white vehicles, but for some reason GM had a bad run back in the 90's every white car or truck the paint fell off in huge chunks. Its got about 190k on it, uses a quart to 1000 miles since 30k (common for 454), been wrecked 3 times and stolen/recovered once. Used to pull a 27' horse trailer every weekend but the horses are gone now. I put a dumper unit in it for hauling firewood and dirt around the acreage. But I would not hesitate to take it cross country it is super reliable.

Very nice truck. I'm a Ford F 250 6.7 liter diesel owner but I really like some of the options Dodge has implemented. Dodge has one of the bigger in
dash screens. Also like the rifle box that you mentioned. Like you.... I buy only white vehicles. Come July and Augest Texas will experience triple
digits temps with super high humidity. I'm pretty sure that new pickup will serve you well.

Is a seat belt necessary to drive 10 mph down a farm lane?

Some of us like to use our own judgement on whether or not we need a seat belt for the task at hand.

Smokey ..... I'm with Russ on this. You must be one of those "can't happen to me guys" ..... you know, just a little trip down the block, a little boat ride near the shore, a bit of grinding without eye protection, one more drink won't put me over the limit, and the list goes on and on. Well at least you know how fast Moresmoke drives, not sure how that happens. Meanwhile, when a cop pulls you over, just tell him that you like to use your own judgement on whether or not you need a seat belt, he'll have a good laugh before he writes you up.

Actually I do wear my seat belt most all the time. But getting in and out to open or shut gates, hook up a trailer, or just move something out of the way I don't. What I have an aversion to is noise makers, must be the pitch of that dinger that really bugs me. I did discover today the the radio comes on every time you start it. Apparently you can mute it but cannot shut it off? And when you walk away from it with the fob in your pocket, it locks itself and toots the horn. I don't need any of that stuff either. I'll start a list of stuff to have the boy look at shutting off next.

I remember visiting a friend in the hospital last fall. I could hear something beeping everywhere, even in his room. I asked the nurse if there was a problem. She said no those go off all the time, you learn not to notice them after a while. Same with construction sites. You hear backup alarms almost constantly. I wonder at what point you get so conditioned to hearing it you no longer respond to it? Then it becomes no good.

Oh man fat guys like me can't handle it. Our daughter lives in Houston area and we visit in January to avoid July and August. I'll take -20 over 100 any day.

Nice truck.

Yup. I'm the same way . Don't need no blasted ding'n thing reminding me of anything. If I wanna lock the keys inside, I'll do just that! lol

Pretty much that first day the "new to me" vehicle sits in the driveway, that's first on the list to go.

I had a 1974 Audi Fox once that would not let you start it unless the seat belt was buckled up. You could bypass it of course, buckle it up behind you or disconnect the wiring underneath the seat, pretty easy to do. Newer vehicles, at least the two I have (a Honda and a Caravan) don't give you a seat belt warning for a minute or two and even then, it's a pretty gentle reminder.

Yep. I have gotten into the habit of putting on the seat belt - BEFORE I start the unit. Maybe only 40 years or so. I raced sports cars in my younger days, and no seat belt was just silly.

Nice truck! When I sold my 2003 F250 last year I found stuff in the tool box that I didn't even remember I had! Found 6 new ratchet straps that I had tossed in there who knows how long ago. 6 boxes of 22 ammo a and a box of 3" 12 gauge # 4 shot that I had bought for turkey season 10 years ago. Amazing what you can loose in the tool box on a truck!

What part of anything said he was not going to wear a seat belt?? You always jump to conclusions with so few facts?? I to do not like the diginh while getting i position to drive or ride.

Again NOTHING about not wearing belt while driving. Ofte I am placing objects in rear while sitting i seat with engine running. Do not need noise as I situate things in cab.

I am surprised RAM or the government allows the seat belt dinger to be "turn offable".
My Dad would find the buzzer or dinger and poke it with an ice pick until it could not make noise anymore.

Our GMC Terrain has seatbelt extenders (adds about 4" ) and the vehicle thinks the seatbelt is being used and remains silent.

Who needs a chime or bell to remind you to wear a seatbelt? Who needs to put a seatbelt on to jockey around rigs in a driveway? Do you need a seatbelt while driving access roads in which gates need to be opened and shut? On the street, sure, wear it. On our ranch I never wear a seatbelt and I sure as heck dont need a chime driving me nuts. If I bump a tree going 15mph I will be just fine.

I trade mine every four years, never get previous box cleaned out that I unloaded last truck into.

What really makes mad is a motorcycle rider does not have to wear a helmet but I have to wear a seat belt? Even worse is now all rider under 18 have to wear helmets on private property ( atvs, atvs included)

Driving under the influence ain't the same as not wearing a seatbelt. DUI ain't the same as not wearing safety glasses either. Okay?
I read your posts here and generally think you have a good head on your shoulders.
But I think you are way out of line to tell someone they should drive and think and grind and act like you do.
I'm with Moresmoke and will use my own judgement on matters that don't affect you.

I like both trucks,the wife has a 14 Ram 1500,I drive a 97 2500 Chevy and I just bought a project 95 3500 Duely 454 4x4.

Well of course Ultradog, everyone can do as they wish. I wasn't suggesting otherwise for yourself or anyone else except if it might affect others in the vicinity. Sweden's response to the current pandemic is a good example, despite their ridiculously high numbers of infected for a small nation of ten million people.

But you missed the point in my reply. I wasn't for a minute equating safety levels between wearing a seat belts and those other things I mentioned. I was merely using them as examples of the "it can't happen to me" attitudes that so many people seem to have. I thought that would have been clear when I posted my reply but apparently not.

Crazy your understanding of comparison is a little weak. Sweden has a .07% of population infected rate while USA has a .11% of population infected rate. Sweden has a .0047% death to population rate while USA has a .0033% of death to population. That would suggest that the isolation had little to no real effect except on the economy. Those are real numbers by the way from Johns Hopkins website.

Jim .... Right now I would say that actual death RATE (in the chart below per one million people) is the one stat that would be worth looking at. Check out the US vs Sweden (that was your choice) and focus on the third column from the right side. That tells me a bit of a story in itself. Unless someone is messing with the numbers, which I highly doubt, it would appear that Sweden's death RATE is almost double that of the US. Meanwhile, it would appear that the Swedes are finally beginning to ramp up and get in step with the rest of the world from what I hear and read today, they are starting to clamp down in other words. Our numbers up here north of the 49th aren't nearly as bad, a simple result of a BIG country with a relatively SMALL population .... although our areas of high population density don't look very good. Anyways the link I mention is below ... draw your own conclusions. One thing I can predict, when this is all over and done with, I know what some people are going to say. Something like ..... "See, I told you we'd get through it" ..... just wait, that'll happen guaranteed.
nnalert by the numbers poke here

Crazy I agree that the numbers on the site that you provided show an almost double death rate per million. I used the Johns Hopkins website with todays numbers calculated by deaths divided by each countries population. So there is some discrepancy between sources. My point all along has been whether or not this has been worth destroying an economy over and whether or not this isolation would actually solve anything. We will not likely have a nnalert any time soon and even if we did we would not be able to produce enough to make much difference. I have heard some sources say that they could produce a nnalert but only be able to produce 1 million doses. Not enough to make even vaccinate a 1/3 of a percent of the population. So what are we going to do in the fall when this thing keeps making its rounds. Are we going to shut down the country again. I question just how much longer we can go without a functioning economy before we reach the point of never returning to a capitalist system. Perhaps a better idea would have been to quarantine only the elderly and the people with other life threatening health issues. It appears that this virus has little to no effect on 86% of the people and of the 14% of the people that show symptoms about 25% are of the extreme of needing to be hospitalized. Of the 25% that are hospitalized roughly 25% die. The question remains what will life be like when this is over. The people that run this site don't like talking about this but this virus effects all of us and should be talked about. This forum exists to support the YT e commerce business and helps them gain traffic in the search engines but if our economy completely crashes their business will likely become non existent along with just about every small business. I don't see people buying a whole lot of tractor parts when they have no jobs to return to. What's left of our way of life has to be considered.

(quoted from post at 16:31:25 04/06/20) Who needs a chime or bell to remind you to wear a seatbelt? Who needs to put a seatbelt on to jockey around rigs in a driveway? On our ranch I never wear a seatbelt and I sure as heck dont need a chime driving me nuts. If I bump a tree going 15mph I will be just fine.

Our state police used to set up this "crash simulator" at county fairs which gives you the feeling of a mere 5MPH crash. Little cart that rolls down an incline into a padded stop. You're belted in with a 5 point harness. It'll knock the wind out of you.

I can't argue with any of your points about the economy tanking. Somehow I would like to believe that life and death would nnalert (no pun intended) dollars and cents. Right now, the health issue has obviously taken over as the #1 concern. The simplest and easiest control of this pandemic is of course the physical distancing and associated restrictions and then hope for the best with science and medicine after that. One thing for sure, I'm not sure of your age but for me at 74, I don't think I'm going to outlive the negative effects of this even if I live to a ripe old age.

I am only 57 and have school aged kids. I did not mean to sound as if I don't care about the lives that are being lost. I do care and wish that this would have never happened but this is life. I thank you for your civility in this conversation. You are obviously a real genuine stand up fellow. Have a great day! Jim

Thanks Jim, it's been a pleasure. Good luck with everything, even though the Penguins or Flyers might not get a chance to hoist Lord Stanley's silverware this spring.

He did not say anything about not wearing the seat belt. Just that he did not want that agrivating thing going off all the time he is trying to manuver that truck around to get it in the exact place to hook up the trailer and having to get in and out a dozen or more times to get that trailer hooked up. And I call those killer belts and not safty belts. I have had too many family members KILLED by a so called working PERFECT INTACT seat belt while the purson is found laying out of the vehical with it plainly showing the marks on neck from seat belt breaking neck. I just wear because of law not for safty.

Speaking seat belts I thing whether or not a person wears a seat belt is his business only. Not the governments or anyone else's.
