12 volt hydraulic valve on seed tender auger-keeps running

I have a brush auger that operates with an hydraulic orbit motor. You can control the flow of hydraulic fluid with an electric valve. The valve has a 15 foot electrical wire with a push button that you can take with you as the planter is filled. I have never repaired one of these valves nor do I know if they are repairable. When you push the button the auger begins turning, but when you let up on the button the auger continues to turn at about 5% of the operating speed. I assume something is not sealing or closing properly inside. Maybe some kind of poppet valve inside? How do these come apart and what typically are the repairs. I have attached a picture of the valve and solenoid. The brand name is HYDRAFORCE INC and it is a 12VDC. Thanks.

Most times I have seen this type of setup the solinoid is set up on a bypass circuit. When the solinoid is energized it closes the valve forcing the oil to go through the motor instead of allowing it to go directly to the resevoir. Throw some seed in the auger and I bet the auger stops till the solinoid is energized.

I have dealt with two of these setups. One I put a brush auger in and that provided enough friction on it's own to stop rotation till the circuit is closed. Other is on my current tender with cupped flighting and yes there is some creep till there are some beans in the auger.

I bet you are right as far as the auger stopping when it has beans in it. I sort of thought that myself. I want to run some stored bin beans through it to get the inside shined up. Last year the seed dealer loaded the seed tender up and then my son opened the door wide open. Filled the auger completely full to the point the auger wouldn't turn. I figured there was just to much friction between a rusty tube, the brush and a full tube of seed. Had to use buckets to empty the tender and fill the planter. Used the dealers tender after that happened last year as it was a rush to get done and no time to fix the tender. I hooked it up to a tractor's hydraulics yesterday and it immediately spun the beans out that were stuck in there from last year. Will see today if the orbit motor and electric valve are going to carry the load and work properly. Thanks.

I once had an electric valve like that on a truck lift gate that would creep down after it stopped. I took the solenoid off and then unscrewed the valve out. I cleaned the screen on the valve and sprayed brake clean thru it as best I could. There was only a few specs of dirt/debris on/in it, as best I recall. Reassembled it and it held the lift gate without sinking. Mark.

I used to sell and deal in bulkseed stuff, or hyds check the elec solenoid that's usually the issue most time, is it activating period. one way most could check is put juice to it and stick pocket knife blade to the round in see if it sticks, (actvate magnet)if not its bad and you should be able to feel the click on it.i

Make sure you don?t have a poor battery connection. With no hydraulic flow try clicking the button a few times. You should hear the valve click and if you hold one hand on the auger you should feel it too. If there?s not a good click the electric valve(?) may need service.
