2nd Week truck update

This is week 2 of 2020 Super Duty 6.7L Diesel.

I only have 1 regret, it looks like they raised the bed another 3-4 inches over my old one. I could just get my foot up on bumper and climb into box on old one, this one is real tough. I made it, but might not as I get older. I should have got the steps. It is getting ridiculous how high the beds are getting, I can hardly see into it, and hard time climbing in.

Mileage is about 21 downwind and 19 upwind, so still about 2.5-3 MPG better than my 2016. It is scary fast on acceleration with virtually no turbo lag. It seems to peg out about 32-35 PSI on boost during full acceleration, versus 27, so that is where the extra torque is.

Idle is noisier on this one with a definite injector rap that the old one did not have. I guess with the added compression there is only so much they can do. The exhaust is much more throaty on this one, maybe there is less restriction.

I think the fuel capacity has been upgrade to 30 gallons, a full tank shows up with range of 550 miles. The 24 on the old one was a beef of mine.

I have notices a lot of older guys carry a little step ladder in the back of their trucks! Maybe when I'm 70, but I plan on buying a smaller truck next time, like a Colorado.

My 2017 F150 2.7L ecoBoost with 34 gallon tank will go 850-880 on a tank. Lots further than my bladder. And handles my trailer with grandpa's Farmall H fine.

That sky high truck is why the wife won't let me buy one.
So I am stuck with my pre-power stroke non computerized '94 7.3 turbo F350 crew cab dually which now has a rblt engine and trans with both under 3,000 miles. A tad bit less money than the same truck I was looking at in the 2020 year. Newer truck might be a bit faster but this one is paid for.

David, take a look at the AMP Research steps. I have both their rear bed step and the side step installed on mine. Definitely help getting on the bumper easier. My new F350 crew cab long bed has a 48gal tank, shows 7xx miles when full. My old '12 crew cab long bed was 38gal and showed around 550-600 miles when full.

The last Ford I owned was a 96 F250 4X4. Bought it new. When I replaced it in 01 Ford had gone to the Super Duty and the bed was about 3" taller. That was it for me on Fords and I've been driving GMC/Chev ever since.
Fords are good but they are just too darned tall.

greed on power step running boards. I put a set on my truck in 05 and am still very satisfied.

David.G have a 2019 super duty also and they are tall mine has the old man step and I use it a lot. My miles per gallon have been from 24 to 13. 13 was pulling our 13.000# camper and the 24 was with a full tank of fuel and a tail wind. It will definitely set you back in the seat. love this truck we have the Lariat package very comfortable ride. I usually trade every two years but this one I think I will keep for a while. Randy

This is definitely on topic and a peeve of mine too......jacking up the height of the beds! Why? Make room for the few sporters that like to run "Monster Mudders? Leave room for you folks up North to install tire chains? Keep the styling while making room for big mils under the hood.....what big mils..everybody is downsizing cubes.....maybe room for the "blowers".

Mine is a 2011 Silverado 1500 2wd, V8 pushrod 4.9, no fancy valve timing or any of that.....4 speed auto. body is higher off the frame than I'd like but I have gotten used to it. Sitting on 44k mines today. Will be my last truck especially since I recently bought a pristeen 2009 Honda Element for running to town on non-farm errands.

David G , glad to hear you like your new truck and thank you for your updates. One question- doesn?t Ford still have the step that pulls out the end of the tailgate? A friend of mine has an F150 approx. 3-4 years old with the step. My Chevy has a toehold in each corner of the rear bumper that helps climbing in and out of the box a lot.

I can use a back tire to climb into my 4 wheel drive truck but I started carrying a little step stool about twenty years ago which I grab and climb in the back. Its not as nice as the fancy steps they have now but it works for me.

Prior to my hip surgery in Jan. I was having trouble climbing up into mine. I go up over the side, stepping up on the tire. Now I can hp right up there like I did ten years ago.

I carry a two step wooden step ladder in the pickup box, and an old rake to reach things in the box. A new truck might require a three step ladder.

Here is a link to a clever tailgate ladder made by Traxion:

Walmart and Amazon also sell them for around $40.

Crew cab trucks have 2 fuel tank sizes, 34 and 48 gallon, its the wheel base that decides the tank size or short bed-34 & long bed 48. 34 gals and 550 miles is about 16 mpg. Compression was actually lowered in 2020 but with other engine enhancements, the gain is an extra 25HP, & 115 lb/ft torque, total is 475HP, 1050 lb/ft torque.
