shares in Hay?

I lease out 30+ acres in corn and beans the last 12 years and now my renter does not want to put out crops any more. I ask him if he would be interested in putting out hay. My question is how do most share crop hay? I was thinking 50/50 down the middle. He has the equipment and I got the land. We split the cost of seeds and fertilizer and I would help him getting it in. I do have tractors I can use.

I have a small parcel with a power line own the middle, really difficult to crop. I plant and fertilize. Neighbor cuts and bales and pats me a fixed price per bale. Works for both of us because it's impossible to spray with 120' boom and smaller haying equipment is fine.

I'm a hay sharecropper. The landowner gets 1/3 and I get 2/3. I do all of the work and buy all of the fertilizer. He sells his 1/3 to me. I'm in Southern Illinois.

Last time I seeded alfalfa on shares it was a neighbors field and he provided the alfalfa seed. I provided the oats as a nurse crop and all labor and machinery. We split the oats and straw 50/50 and after that same with the hay.
On another place I cut and bale several acres a guy owns in a subdiv. Never fertilized or reseeded. I get 75%.

With two different landlords, both are 1/3 for them, and 2/3's for me. I usually buy their 1/3 back. A good friend of mine has a 10 acre patch of brome. He wants me to bale it for him just to get it taken off each year. Gives me the hay, and I do the work. Haven't fertilized yet in the 4 years I have done it, but it is still a good producer. Bob

Here in NH the landowner gets 5% if anything. If they buy the lime and pay me to spread it they could get 20%.
