Looking at A 8N with bad engine , I know that Funk had a version with the flat head, not sure if or what was used in it I have accress to a flat head.Don t know if I want to try putting it togeagther or not.

Everything in this project is driven by your mechanical and machinist capability. Not simplistic. Jim

In addition to what was said previously, once finished, you will have a novelty rather than an 8N useful for most things that 4 cylinder 8Nn are useful for.

Talk to the guys over on the Ford board. I think that Funk conversions were available for both the Ford flat head V-8 & a Ford 6's that were used back then.

Dean is correct. From the user point of view the steering becomes much harder than it was (Already hard), if no governor is used, controlling power is way difficult, The power train is not designed to handle the torque. It essentially becomes a hotrod. Jim

I have never understood the whole little ford thing. They were so light and poor power they just didn't make much of a tractor. They were to light in the frontend for loader work. The 3pt with the pto operated pump is a disaster. I worked on an n series about a year ago and what a gutless wonder when I was done. Our H would have out run it for power and sure would drag it around with the wheels spinning. On a bushhog the front end would slide turning if you didn't watch it or step on the brake. Cutting grass as high as the hood would only take a half to quarter swath or would just flat die out. I have never liked 3 pt equipment anyway to much work to put on and off.

They were never intended to replace a John Deere A or an M Farmall. They were an economical tractor for the small farmer who might not otherwise be able to afford one. You could plow 2 bottoms or run two row equipment, which is what they were intended for.
On a larger operation they were more of a chore tractor. We ran one for years when I was growing up--mostly raking hay, pulling wagons, running the grain elevator, things like that. Worked fine for us.
For bush hogging 4 ft. high grass, use the big tractor!

A lot more to it than just bolting it in and as others have said, you end up having 65 to 100 hp in a 24 hp tractor. This is my 95 hp 6. I do pull a 6' box blade with it a half dozen times a year. With the rear tires loaded it handles it really well but basically it is a hard steering trailer queen.

They would plow round for round with a Farmall H in same land in field. To me your Caterpillar was a useless outfit.

I know the limits of the 8N everytime I get one Come hay season I remember why I got rid of the last one, Just thought it might be fun too hop one up.
