growing peanuts

Anyone on here that grows peanuts more than in the garden. Need to talk to someone that grows peanuts commercially or for a crop.

In north central Indiana, have done it for 2 yrs and I think it has done pretty good. 2 rows about 50 ft in length in sandy soil. Picked up seed in Florida one year and used raw peanuts from fruit market another time. Did nothing special for fertilizer or treatment. Wife roasted in the oven and they turned out as expected.

That is why I was asking on here I am out of the normal area and having trouble finding seed in quantity that we need. Ever body has these little packets I need 100 lb bags.

We grew 12 acres of them in s.e. Ga. when I was growing up. They like sandy soil, no fertilizer per se, but we did put a white powdery product on them called land plaster about mid way of the growing season. Keep them sprayed/dusted for pests and pull the dirt to them as they grow to have them on a bed by the time the vines close up the rows. We planted early April harvested late Sept. IIRC.

Gurneys has a 110 day peanut but I don?t know if peanuts work like corn if they do it would have to be an absolute perfect year for them to work here

Pete in Holland, yes you can grow them here in Michigan. That is if you have sandy or light soil. Neighbor up the road grew them a couple times. He grew the red Spanish ones and the jumbo ones. The thing about growing them here is that they requirement a long growing period, so you have to get them in the ground as soon as it's safe from any late frost. He had pretty good success with them.

Should be able to google up some farm stores in SE VA or North Eastern NC they should have seed.Used to be a big Planters elevator down around Waverly and Wakefield VA on US 460.Maybe call a Southern States Coop store in those areas they'd most likely be able to tell you where to get seed if they didn't have it.Dolthan Alabama area has peanut growers, had a fellow that worked at a peanut elevator near there that come up and buy some American Guinea hogs from me a few years ago.Said he could get all the waste peanuts he wanted.

Yea I had already tried Gurney all they sell is the little packs, I need like bushels or 100 lb bags. TF put me in touch with a place, think we have it worked out.

I planted a pound of seed one years and had the best looking plants and then the mice or voles or what ever the borrowing rats are called destroyed my patch. I figure I can buy peanuts and taters cheaper than I can raise them.
