I have a 12 volt battery that appears to be seeping around the positive post. It is always damp around the post. It is good otherwise. What would be a suitable product to seal it with? I thought about clear lacquer. Thanks for any advice.

I have had that happen several times. For my batteries nothing fixed the leak. RTV seamed to last the longest, but eventually fails. Next time I will find a fat O ring, and push the clamp down on top of it. That may be a better solution. Stan

do a load test on it then you know. if its good, put some old fashioned grease around the post put cable on and keep using it. have seen this many many times. if in a vehicle when at car wash, wash it down every so often.

rustred is likely right in using grease or maybe tar , had the same thing happen on my truck battery and I couldn't keep it from corroding . At the time I didn't think of using grease or tar, don't remember what I used but it didn't work.

I would blow dry it then use thin crazy glue to soak into the gap. let it cure for a few hours then use it. Motion and vibration, as well as modest pressure if a low or no maintenance style, are what may defeat the grease solution. Jim
