Engine swap

I have a John Deere d300 or d300b back hoe and the injection pump blew apart. It is about 1500$ for a rebuilt one that has the original part that went on mine and it s over 1000$ for the parts that I need. I have always been partial to Cummins motors and was wondering if it is possible to swap a 4bt into it any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

Probably doable. But it will cost way more tham 1500,plus the cost of the engine if you have to buy it. Not to mention the aggervation.Just fix what you have.

A 4 cylinder Cummins will cost you more than
1500$ and that?s just the very beginning. You could
do it but you?ll be 4 or 5000$ into it to do right. Have
a couple good friends with dorfs that have a
Cummins swapped into them they?ve put enough
money into trying to get them to work right they
could of bought a new Dorf with warranty and just
worry about putting fuel in it and changing the oil .
The one guy finally sold his to another poor slob
and the other one Is back in the shop again and
after all that they still don?t have anything reliable to
actually get out and use . I?ve seen the swaps done
right and they work ok but it?s not really cost
effective unless you have a motor already and
enough time to do it the way it needs done
Cummins is a good engine but all the swapping
fantasies people have are a little overboard. After
seeing the few around here it I want a truck with a
Cummins I?ll buy one from the factory if I want a
ford I?ll buy a ford .

i only bring it up because I have a motor and I also have a case 580 backhoe that I use I just used that one for some small stuff and finished with it so I wanted to make it a little different than all the other ones

I think putting a Cummins engine in a JD utility tractor wouldn't be an easy task. Have you considered how you will attach frt hyd pump drive to Cummins engine frt pulley?

The only engine swaps that i have done tyhat have been pretty easy were done on oliver tractors , did the 4 BT a 5.9 and the crown jewel was the 8.3 in a 2150 fwa Only engine mounts to build and on the 8.3 some oil pan mod.'s to clear the ft. drive shaft and a big check book . No machining a flywheel just write the check and bolt it on , no problem with engine fan just unbolt and move the fan hub up to the top holes , line the engine up by using the PTO shaft and build the mounts inplace . Over the years swaping out this engine to something else was fun at the time but as you age it becomes a lot of work to get them done correctly . I think the hardest was the 460 into my 78 F 250 . Yea it made a real truck out of it but i used the wrong engine and built it wrong for the time . I built it to 1970 spec.s in 1980 and a 11 to 1 engine days were numbered , first problem was finding or building a starter that would turn it over hot next was recurving the dist. making up and exhaust system that was neet and tucked up in and around the transfer case on the drivers side and time . Between the machine shop assembly mock up mounts drive line alignment getting the oil filter to clear the frame and ft rear end i had three weeks in doing this with lots of out go and no income when i should have been making money instead of spending money . Yea it was fun it ran extremely well and even did good on gas mileage . Ran it till the transmission took the ft. clutch pac out and had no time to work on my own stuff and found it easier to just go buy something and move on.
