Stuck valve

The NAA I'm working on has a stuck valve. I was able to wiggle out the valve cover without removing the hood and gas tank. The muffler is blocking the left side so still pretty hard to get to. Anyone have any magic cure all for freeing them up?

I've had some luck freeing them but removing the valve cover and then using vise grab or some such thing to grab the end of the valve and turn it as I am pulling up on it. Also helps if you fill that cylinder with ATF and then turn the engine over so the ATF get to the valve it self and let it sit a day or 2 so the valve is socking in the ATF before trying to rotate and pull on the valve

Use some penetrating juice on the stem, then a flat bar into the spring to pry upward. Tapping while applying upward motivation modestly is alsogood.
Easier with the hood at least part way up. Jim

Do as Janicholson says. Never seen an overhead valve engine that the valve stem protruded enough to get vise grips or anything on as valve stem is usually flush with the spring.

and to top it off you will damage the top of the stem. then if need to remove the valve you will be filing the top of the stem and that valve will be junk. that is backyard work doing that.

That is what I plan to do. Just looking for that miracle cure that is probably not out there. Lol. Really dont want to remove the hood. tank or muffler. Hard to get to without.

Have you removed the cover on the right side of the engine? You can gain access to the lifters and push rods there. My 640 had a valve stuck open due to push rod getting out of the lifter. Could be a possibility on your tractor, several poster have had this issue over the years.

Google "Rope Trick overhead valve engine"

That may work. With my luck it would get stuck but as a last resort I would try it. My Aunt did understand how bad my luck was until she came and spent a few months here. Lol.
