fuel addatives

Good morning.
Do any of you add anything to your gas to lubricate the valves of old tractors? I have a jubilee and a older john deere diesel

Nothing needed for old gas engines. I add a half ounce /gal two stroke oil to the old diesels. The old injection pumps need it.

Before I bought a XT5 Cadillac, I had no clue what top tier fuel was.
Top tier fuel has more detergents than minimum required.

They claim it good for the valves, keeps valve stems cleaner.

I use top tier fuel.

Marathon claims to use STP gas additive in their fuels. If I can't find a Top Tier gas station, which their are 75 different ones, I'll add a bottle of STP. BP, Shell, Marathon, Country Mark, are the gas station I use.

Google top tier and buy their fuel for your old tractors.
What can it hurt?

Now Marlow, how do you know how he uses his tractors? Tell me now how I use mine.

diesel technician said injection pump built before 2007 needs additional lube if on-road fuel is used personally I always use fuel additive in all diesel fuel and have advised three neighbors whose older diesels would not run properly to add trans fluid to fuel as they were using on road fuel.solved their problem. gas engines without hardened valve seats need some type lube in gasoline to replace the removed lead that acted as a lubricant.

i did not tell him i asked .been fixen tractor and heavy eq for 50 years and the stuff is snake oil how many engines have you rebuilt ?

Yes Marlow you asked a question but then answered it for him. That makes it telling him how he uses it. I have just finished my 6th engine rebuild. What would you like to tell me about what I did wrong?

Say what you will about "snake oil" but 10-12 years ago, when they pulled the sulfer out of fuel oil, I was running three eighties vintage MB diesels and had to replace the delivery valve 0-rings in the two that I didn't ply with extra additive in under 2,000 miles running on the "improved" low sulfer, on road fuel. Never had an issue with the other one, or any of my diesel tractors either, but I had upped the additive in the "off road", red juice fuel oil tank that I used in those.

(quoted from post at 05:28:18 03/09/20) My fuel additive recipe:

"Eye of newt, and toe of frog, Wool of bat, and tongue of dog, Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting, Lizard's leg, and howlet's wing."

Barnyard, I can believe that.
