Bob you gave me a wiring diagram for a 2000 s10 with 2.2 l engine and told me what wires to look for because it is only running on 2 cylinders. One coil is not putting out any spark. The wires ohmed out ok. If I remove both coils and hook a test light to the terminals where the coil that works would plug in the circuit board the light will blink while I turn the engine with the starter. If I hook the test light to the terminals where the coil that does not work plugs into, The test light does not blink when I turn the engine. This sounds like the computer is not putting out the signal to that coil. I think the computer is bad. Do you agree?
Thanks
Dale

I'm not Bob but yes sounds like you nee a new computer or a rebuild one. I know a number of years ago you could take your computer to O'Reilly's and they would send t in and rebuild it for about half of what a new computer would cost

I agree with old. First I would make sure the plug into the computer was pulled, and the wire to the coil was checked for continuity. Cheap fix if the wire is bad. Jim

I would not have put a test light on those terminals (unless a logic probe), as I don't know the current capacity of the related circuits in the 'puter, but it sure seems like the 'puter or connection at the 'puter may have failed.

You checked the wires, and (as I recall) have replaced the coil driver and swapped the coils, dunno what else it could be. (Of course, I've been wrong before!)

My (erroneous) thought was plug wires, and that is where the idea stayed. I agree with it being bad, a used box might be cheap. Jim

Bob thank you for your help. I did not have a scope and figured the test light had enough resistance that it would not cause any damage so I tried that. I will check into a computer. Again thanks for the info.

Since about 2000 or so, there is no more putting in used computers.

Many PCMs have the VIN and mileage contained in them. In order to replace one, the replacement has to have the correct VIN and mileage programmed into them. Doing otherwise is a federal crime. Some - not all - have this "feature." As they get newer, more and more models need a PCM that is specific to the vehicle.
