Shibaura tractor

Hey Guys been around in the shadows for years mostly on the Ford forum but moved recently and looking for a new small tractor to look after a small place, Just found this Shibaura SD2600 tractor on Ebay. I know it has a lot of parts in common with a Ford but the seller states the PTO "pulled out" and when he fixed it the thing pulled out sometime later (how long???) is not clear. I wonder if anybody has any experience with the Shibaura. The machine is long gone from the market and I'm probably foolish but it looks like an intriguing project. Any thoughts.

Parts availability MAY be an issue.

I have a Ford New Holland GT75 diesel made by Shibaura (CUTEST, nicest little tractor you could ever hope to own) and needed a spindle for the mower deck, nla from FIAT, my B-I-L works at a CNH dealership and there is simply none to be had, even from old stock at other dealers and NOS parts warehouses, I've searched all over the 'net with no luck. I've asked several times on the GT Forum here, as well. (The spindle is fairly involved, lots of machining, a keyway, splines, and it's hardened, not something easily made at the neighborhood machine shop.)

I've been told that is not uncommon with Shibaura parts.

It's pretty sickening when you own a nice little machine that's not "ancient", at least in my eyes, (1995, IIRC) and can't get parts.

Do your homework to be sure you don't end up with something like that.

Have u considered replacing the entire spindle assembly, housing and all with another more common brand. Exmark, Skag, JD. Something with close to same height and pulley diameter. Just a thought.

Trouble is the center spindle passes through and is part of a 90 gearbox.

The spindle (SBA613460310) is the grayed-out part at the very bottom of the drawing.

Thanks Guys. I really think the thing could be a fun project and thanks Bob, I really appreciated the diagram. Could not figure what holds the PTO spindle in or if the parts are available. The machine will be of no value to me putting in a small orchard without the PTO. I'll keep digging.

A friend bought a smaller shibaura built Ford years ago. It needed just a steering part. He looked and looked for the part and never found it and sold the tractor for scrap.

Believe I'm gonna pass on this one. Thanks for the help. More better stick to the popular brands!!
