Hi All, i have recently purchased a Massey Ferguson 175 Tractor 1970 Model with a A4/248 motor and Multi Power. I have been trying to find out where the Hydrolic oil filter in the transmission sits. I have been told that sitting on the seat its next to the left side cover which has hydrolic lines in it and on the other side cover has a handle and ive been told its next to that also. Today i was told its on the pump at the back of the gear box above the pump. Ive also been told that i have to remove the seat and top cover to get to it.
Can anyone please give me the correct advice as to its whereabouts. I have to change it as i have water in the hydrolic oil and FEL lines. any guidence would be much appreciated. Ken

Does yours have IPTO? On my 150 with IPTO it's forward of the left side inspection cover. I tried changing the filter through the top cover and was unsuccessful. The only way to change it on the 150 is to split the tractor and remove a bunch of things, hopefully yours is different.

The US MF 175 did not have a hydraulic filter outside, but had a screen inside at the pump oil inlet. They also used the Perkins A4.236, not the 248. I wonder if you have a UK model? If a US model the lift cover must come off for screen access, and I would not do that unless absolutely needed. I'd change the oil first, as I've seldom seen a screen that needed cleaning..

If it is equipped with Multi-Power and IPTO it could have an oil cooler and filter in front of the radiator. I had a 1968 165 that was set up that way.

Yes, most had that filter IF tractor had the MP option, that filter is for the MP clutch valve only. There's no filter on US models for the three point pump or IPTO clutch if equipped, just inlet screens for the three point pump and the auxiliary pump which require lift cover removal for access.

would I be askin for trouble if I left the inlet screen OFF on my MF 50 ? that would be after I change the hyd oil. and refill with 90W mineral oil. thanks.

Hi Everyone, Thanks for your posts. I have a camera which hookes to my laptop and have decided to empty the oil and put the camera inside transmission and have a look around. Id rather not take off the top cover or split the transmission. I do have however an oil cooler at front and on the hydrolic line to the FEL there is a filter which has 2 in x 2 out lines. The gunk in that is pretty thick. Maybe they used this instead. My plate reads 722912 which lines up with a 178 because of the A 4/248 motor but all other indications leads to a 175. I don't know how to read the other plate numbers but maybe someone does or has a book to match. 666879, 69578, 738593, 751286, 799012, 799298, 803003, 809005, 101379, 898422, 889230.

I believe the other numbers you posted from your tractors tag are just some of the patent numbers that apply. A photo of the tag might allow confirming that.
