Oil filter housing on my new '39 Farmall H. Any idea what it would have come off? I don't believe it's farmall. Would like to leave it on the tractor. It's part of it's history. Would like a new filter to go in it.

Some kind of aftermarket. A friend had one on an H. He was unable to find an element. He eventually changed it back to the OEM type.I,ve heard 'Lubrefiner;Kralinator, and other names thrown out there...

More than likely it was sold new as an aftermarket accessory for your tractor.

If you get a chance, look at a copy of the "Red Tractor Book" from the era of your tractor.

They were a magazine put out for dealers and, in addition to tractor tests and specifications they had pages and pages and pages of ads for tractor accessories and gimmicks for dealers to sell.

Here's a couple of photos from one from 1945 for sale on ebay.

I have 3 or 4 from that era of them tucked away somewhere, and I can remember them having ads for all sorts of "-add-on" oil filters.

Looks like it is harder to change than an original ? I'd just get an original type and put back on it !
Several machines and cars from that era used can type oil filters. There are 2 very common sizes maybe one of them would fit in that housing you have ? I only have 1 machine with a can on it now , but I could measure the outside of the can and I also should have both filters here I could measure if needed. Pull that one out and lets see what is down in there and what it looks like.

it is an after market , u have the #'s on it. I highly dought you will get new filters. as I said wash that filter and reuse. but if you would remove the filter and post a picture of it then have a better idea of what it is. I would just get the actual ihc filter housing with the small filter that is easily available. this contraption take up half the engine and makes changing #4 spark plug a challenge. put this thing on a shelf .

One on my dad's chevy. Puorolator filter. Check NAPA. Take the filter with you. They are a little smaller when new. They swell up.

I disagree with the guys who say you should take it off. This would be a conversation piece at a show. I like old aftermarket accessories. Everybody has a stock one. That old "sock" filter is meant to be pulled out, washed in parts cleaning fluid, or gas, and reused many times. Keep searching until you find the original manufacturer. Part of the fun of having it.

that's what I told him , need to clean those but appears he don't believe me. wont get a new one. so I gave the other option.

Rustred.......I posted up here asking if anyone knew who made it. I intend to clean it. Also I have checked with O'Reilly's and they can get me a filter for about $20. Just want to know who made it. Not every one here looks at farmall board.........

Hello Grandpa love,

Don't know who makes them, but it sure looks like an old 6 cylinder Chevy 292 cu in filter from the 50's. A toilet paper roll can be used on a pinch, if that's the size,

Guido.

"A toilet paper roll can be used on a pinch, if that's the size"

I'm not so sure about that!

Oil filters typically have the oil entering through the outer surface, and exiting through the center core area of the media.

That won't work well with a roll of TP!

IIRC, the filters designed for TP had plates at each end of the roll with winding passages for the oil to enter and find it's way out of the TP roll.

If the O.P. takes some measurements of the old filter and looks in a (WIX, for example) oil filter catalog, there's a whole section showing drawings of hundreds of filters and their dimensions, should be able to match up something that fits.

the 292 was from the 1960's and had the spin on filter. the 1950's trucks had this canister setup and you could buy those filters for them. and also the massey 44 used the same filter. toilet paper has it use in other places than a filter.
