Couple good size ag consignment sales this week end in my general area. What are the predictions on the effect the stock market dropping big time going to have if any on prices?

I don't see a big short term impact coming. The correction for things such as equipment has already happened before when milk and crops declined off of their highs several years back. Good equipment will still bring good money. Junk is back to receiving scrap/salvage prices. It's not 1985 where things like JD 7000 six row planters in very good condition were struggling to fetch 2,000 dollars.

I believe the stock market drop is due in part to the effect on the economy caused by the Corona virus. Not sure how it might affect the prices at upcoming sales, but I doubt it will help prices any.

I think more people are going to want to live on small acreage, raise their own fruits, veggies, chickens, cattle, etc., and there is going to be demand for small tractors and equipment.

Don,t know about the used market but new sales have not dropped at my dealership in the last two days. We have been blessed by a very mild winter and looks like an early spring and folks have been buying like crazy . Jan 2020 was up 16% over last year and last year was strong and so for no let up in Feb.

If we were getting parity prices for all of our products, we wouldn't be worrying about the stock market. Also, if farmers were in debt at the percentage ratio that big business is, with today's prices we would be in the red very deep.

A major green paint ag company made sales projections yesterday for 2020. They are projecting 5 to 10 % decline in ag and turf equipment sales for 2020. This is new equipment sales not used. Soybean market dropped 0.50 cents bushel in last 2 days. Corn price is down considerable also. Farmer fortunes can follow commodity prices. Deere had a 43 yr old - 135 hp tractor & planter on display at the NFMS show in Louisville last week showing it completely retrofitted with GPS receiver, auto-steer, upgraded hydraulics. precision seed drop, & field ready & able to pull a smaller planter than the big boys do. Used equipment in good shape is bringing record breaking prices at auctions. This good used equipment example was on display at NFMS, something you don't see at a show like that.

I talked with finical advisor this am. He said he wouldn't change anything he thinks this is short time it will soon turn around.

Good used is likely going up.

New in my greater area has to be suffering, all the Prevent Plant last year especially west of me, lot of equipment only had a half years worth of use.
