Cylinder leaking at bottom seam where joins casting. Would JB Weld work or could this be brazed or welded. Cylinder is pressed on where it joins casting. John Deere wants $1000. for this new.

Not sure if JBWeld would work but I would be worried about the heat of welding or brazing warping the cylinder. I would Take it to a shop that is a specialist in cylinders and hydraulics

I think 2250 psi is more pressure than J-B will sustain. I think one can weld cylinder by having piston at opposite end of cylinder from welding & having cylinder disconnected from control housing.

Your JD dealer must be greedier than some JD dealers.
AR79172 Cylinder $691.73

I replaced one on my 4440 ten years ago and at that time it was $425.00 bucks.I checked in on welding it and was told it couldn t be fixed.Did not help you much but maybe you ll have better luck than I.

Can you determine what the base is made of?

If ductile iron or forged steel, yes it can be welded.

If cast, maybe someone familiar with welding or brazing could fix it.

At this point nothing to loose by trying.

More than likely, there's an O-ring in there that the tube was crimped down on.

If that's the case, you will be dealing with smudged, cooked O-ring goo if you try to weld it.

Thanks for all replies. Cost is $1050. Canadian. Can get s used one for $300. Don't know yet, what I will do. will post final result.

Warm the casting and weld with the wire welder less heat build up from the smaller wire versus the much bigger rod and let cool slowly will work fine. Bot out anything if it doesn't hold or seal.
