1953 Super H hood

I have a 1953 Super H. I bought it as a basket case. The center hood was beat and bent beyond repair. I purchased another hood. It measures the same as the old hood. However I new hood does not quite fit correctly . The rear of the hood fits on the gas tank ok. But on the radiator end it has a little gap on the left side. It still over laps the front shroud like it is supposed too. Just not tight. I have adjusted the radiator and looked at everything. Any ideas?

It doesn't take much to tweak those hoods. I have several H's and none of them really fit perfect. It might have come from the factory that way. Maybe a picture would help see how bad it is.

Unfortunately IH did not put a lot of effort into sheet metal fit. I have three M Farmalls all with the same problem. I have adjusted the radiators and moved
the little brackets on the radiator support all to no avail. I made some large aluminum washers just big enough to hold the hood in against the grill. My
guess is that you will have to settle for good enough. Ellis

if the new hood measures exactly the same as the old one, there is no reason it should not fit properly. Are you 100% sure the gap wasn't there with the old hood?I've owned both H and SuperH,always thought the hoods were the same.

Was at one of the first midwestern IH Red Power Round-ups, saw a Super H that Pilot Knob Restorations had
done that the gaps between grill and hood and the hood & gastank were PERFECT! It ALL starts with getting
the radiator adjusted and located correctly. There should be some adjustment in the gas tank too.

I've looked at THOUSANDS of Super H's, FARMALL must have had a guy with really small hands on one side of
the assembly line installing radiators and the guy on the other side of the line must have had hands the
size of catcher's mitts! They ALL have the radiator/grill in crooked, including my own '54 Super H.

My experience is that once sheetmetal is taken off of an old tractor, it never goes on as easy or the same again. Let alone sheetmetal from a different tractor. Way too many bumps and bangs to the tractor. While the sheet metal is still on doesn't look bad, but again once off never goes on again the same.

Sheetmetal fit up can be (and usually is) the most time consuming part of any level of restoration. On & off, On & off On & ...... This is not plug & play stuff.

Lowering the left side of the gas tank (reduced rubber shim thickness) can push the left front edge closer the the radiator. Jim
