What's on the front of the Gravely?

This appears to be a 400 series tractor. In the first year of production (1967) the gas tank was oval and located near the control panel (dash)as shown here. A larger rectangular tank was used in subsequent years and located forward near the grille.

If breaking new ground with 1 of these plows on the 2 wheel model you could have your hands full. It would bite into roots, rocks or whatever you had and throw you around, lots of power. Used 1 many times, worked nice on opened ground.

I have done exactly that and still mow with an 8163 model. One of my
uncle's was a Gravely dealer in the 70's.

Rotary plow. The absolute best garden tiller you could ever want. I have one
and nothing stands in its way!

Had to go through my tool folders. The pictured unit is missing the dirt shield. So they could take the picture. Absolutely a brute digging in your garden. Mine snapped off one inch roots like soda straws. Makes a beautiful fluffy soil bed in one pass. The first time you must go very slow for safety sakes. The next time you can go as fast as you want to go. Makes a trench about a foot deep and 9 or 10 inches wide. Terrific digger! Inside explosion, that thing that looks like a huge brake rotor is a gigantic bronze gear.

Thanks everyone! It looked like something was happening there, but the shaft sticking up threw me off a bit. Have never seen anything like it before.

I have one on a walk behind Gravely. I use it to cover seed potatoes and to hill up potatoes. Never actually plowed with it.
