Radio removal

I have essentially the same radio in my 9500 combine as my 7800 Deere chore tractor. They are Delco am/fm radios. The one in the tractor is finally
dying a slow and painful death. They both remove with the two pronged tool on each side, but I don?t have the tool for either machine. I may have
gotten it with the combine but that was back in 1995, so I haven?t any idea where it would be.

Does anyone know what that tool looks like? For other radios I have removed it was just basically to slide sprung clips in on either side so it could slide
out. I didn?t want to start jamming small screwdrivers in there if I should be going and hunting up one of those tools before I wreck something and have
to hum to myself for hours a day. I don?t hum well.

Been a while, but best I remember was using 4 long nails that just fit the holes, squeeze them together, push them apart cross ways?

Pretty obvious once you get started.

You just need solid wire that will fit in the 4 holes,I think baling wire is too big. Just push it in and it will release the
locks, pull the radio out. The tools will make it easier to pull it out but they are not needed. ,

Just buy a new set of the PROPER TOOLS like the ones ROYSE posted. Shoving baling wire, nails, little screw drivers will be frustrating and could screw up the spring clips your trying to release. The U shaped tools make sure the you keep the tool lined up with the spring, the ball on the end helps pull the radio out. You can screw around for an hour hunting for junk to shove in the four holes and be frustrated with not being able to free the radio, or you can have the radio out in TEN SECONDS WITH THE TOOL.
Been there done that. Have the tools now. You might find them at a car stereo shop, you guys all rave about NAPA, check there too.

I don't remember any GM/acdelo radio that uses those type of tools.

Those will work on hole spacing from 1 1/4 to about 1 7/16 if that helps

It sounds like you have Ford style radios. The tools that Royce pictured have notches near the ends. Push the tools into the holes in the radio until you feel them catch, then spread the tools apart to the right and left and pull the radio out.

Bet ya a dozen donuts that is a Ford radio. That system is also used by several European radios also. Here is a picture. Here are the plugs. You should be able to junkyard a new radio for like $20.oo. Take the old one to the yard to compare them. The 16 pin plug on the right should match. If it is a much newer radio the plug will be a long one piece plug. Or.....we are all wet.

Forgot to say the European radios most likely will be single DIN units. They are about 3 inches tall. The Ford radios are double DIN. Much taller.

Mike .... in a u-shaped wire (or whatever you want to call it) and the two ends are inserted into holes, how do you spread the U wires apart?
