reason to buy an antique tractor

I love an open field with the purr of an old diesel in front of me, the gentle and sometimes not so gentle breeze blowing under my cap, if only I had more hair. It's interesting that the Harley motif doesn't appeal to me too much though I feel I can kind of relate to it relative to the joy and pleasure of driving an old tractor.

I own them to use and I can work on them.
Have 3 that are as old or older than me.
I work them all.
I am 67.

its my retirement fund and I get the satisfaction of using them , better than money in the bank.

I figured the guys that buy old tractors either can?t afford new tractors, and have to make do. Or buy old tractors to collect/resell/restore. Always figured the dinosaurs faded out on account of they didn?t have thumbs. Without a thumb, how could they hitch hike to a more tropical climate once the ice age began?

I can buy a new one if I wanted, even if I were to become suddenly very wealthy I still wouldn't buy one of the plastic electronic things sold today they don't appeal to me in the least.I would spend a lot of of money redoing some of the older models I really like and love to operate.BTW there are a lot of people buying new ones that can't really afford them.

The reason I own them is I am an addict. Not a Dope addict or a alcoholic, just can't pass them up. I own 4 acres of land and have 13 tractors, a backhoe and a bulldozer. Hardly enough room to park them and always looking for one more. Wife keeps saying you don't need any more but I always find an excuse.

I am not a hoarder, I just like a lot of different things and most just happen to be old rusty tractors.

Reason? Was reason involved the first time you fell in love or the FIRST time you got married? Nope, so I can say my reason is because I wanted it. Here is another one, because I was deprived as a child and didn't have a tractor in my crib, I had to do it all by hand as I walked to school backwards uphill both ways.
I wasn't born with a silver tractor in my mouth.
Now that my ship has come in, I need a tractor to tow it from the airport. :D
Last one, because the wife needs something to put her flowers on
Thanks, Fat Dan

I know a guy says If it's rusted, busted, and no parts around he wants it. Likes to fix what every one says can't be fixed

When I was growing up in the 60's I loved to go to tractor dealerships especially Oliver and AC and see the new tractors there, dreamed of being able to afford just one of them.So now that I can afford those tractors I just keep on buying tractors from the 60's and 70's really a dream come true wish my dad was still around to enjoy them.

I have a M but wanted a faster forth gear so got this SM. Still cheap horsepower that's used almost daily. And it's older than me by about 10 years.

I like my dads JD620 for loader work but road gear is slooooow. I was raised on it, the first tractor I drove.

Once Dad bought the SM-TA with the Fast 4th, it was all over except for the shouting for the '51 M. He did find a Fast 4th kit to put in the transmission so it now has the faster 2nd, 3rd, & 4th like a Super M, but it still has band brakes that work.
Not hard to understand why FARMALL couldn't keep up building Super M's at FARMALL and sent 50 sets of parts to their Louisville plant every day to try to build enough of them in 1952. The popular Louisville Super M's. Some guys pay BIG premiums for a LVL SM, not sure why.

This is a timely thread for me. My neighbor in the mtns of CO was having a chuckle at me clearing my driveway with a 1956 Ford, snow chains with a blade. Next morning he was out there with his nice new truck with a very nice plow on the front. He pushed too far, and got stuck in the ditch. Across the street, so no one could get by.

He had to ask me to pull him out. I told him my tractor, chains and blade cost less than his plow. And, I could shovel and grade, and brush hog. All he can do is push snow. Have a nice day.

(quoted from post at 17:46:53 02/18/20) I don't collect antique tractors. All my tractors are tools not show girls.

That's a good one. But I'm Dyslexic and when I first read it it came out backwards, and I gave a big belly laugh!
"All my show girls are tools and tractors."
Then I read it again.
It is still good.
