I don't know if it's a side effect of being 73 or what but pro sports just don't hold my interest anymore. Of course at 73 I do suffer from a lot of side effects.

I never got into watching others play sports of any kind, I love playing and watching my kids do it, but not others.

David that is my thoughts on sports too.

I would add that sports are good for personal enjoyment/health but have become too "important" in schools and colleges. Our high school as two gyms but is short on classrooms. The cost of "new" gym would have built ten new class rooms. Just shows where the focus on education has shifted.

Highest paid semi-government employees in every state are the University Coaches. Yes, I have heard the argument that they bring in the revenue.
1)Actually the players bring in the revenue and 2) if the coach is so important by himself, let him go to south west central Podunk University without a million alumni, and national news coverage, and see how much money he can generate all by himself?

I agree in part with sports are completely over blown in this country. But as a school board member for over 20 years I will defend gym space as long as you have classroom space. Gyms are classroom space, as many do not get enough exercise. I am probably with a lot of you that say the kids can always go outside, but with over protective mommies and gov't that day has passed. Gyms provide space for recess, PE , inclement weather along with many other curricular and community activities
