I HAVE A JD 730 DIESEL GETTING ENGINE OIL IN COOLANT.
REMOVED CYLINDER HEAD AND HAD HEAD PRESSURE TESTED AND CK FOR WARPAGE.ALL IS OK
HEAD GASKET HAD SEALS AROUND WATER JACKET PORTS WITH THE METAL SEALS THIN AND FLAKING.ANY IDEAS

Usually you can see where compression is leaking past the head gasket if it is the head gasket.

Very rare for a head gasket, or cracked head, or leaking liner to get oil in the coolant.

Coolant in the oil, yes, but not the other way around.

Typically that is caused from a bad oil cooler.

OK THANKS

Cylinder pressure is 300 to 400 lbs. radiator pressure is 10 to 15 lbs. so very easy for cyl. pressure to leak into the radiator and carry some fuel /oil deposits with it.

"Typically that is caused from a bad oil cooler."

I AGREE.

But there's NO oil cooler on a vintage John Deere 730.

Hasn't John Deere made two different 730 diesels? One with the two cylinder John Deere engine and one with a slant eye engine (smaller tractor)? What does the OP have?

I don't believe DEERE has gotten around to recycling the "730" badge yet.

730 diesel was made from 1958-1961 in US, then continued 'til 1971 in Argentina.

Was available in electric start or "pony engine" start, they share cooling systems, so it's POSSIBLE for pony engine oil to find it's way into the cooling system.
