I'm getting serious about replacing my tractor hauler and have pretty much settled on the Ram 1500 pickup. With the 5.7 and the right axle ratios it will pull anything I need it to, and I don't need to carry a milk crate for a step so my wife can get into it. I've looked at the Ram Box option and it really like the looks of it on a new or near new truck on the lot. But no one seems to comment on how they work after a bunch of gravel road miles. Lids get loose, leak water or dust? Cause more spots to trap mud and rot out the box? Anyone have Ram Box option and care to comment? Thanks

I know someone with South Dakota Assn. of Rural Water Systems that is on his 2nd Dodge Ram with those boxes. The first pickup had over 200,000 miles and he loved the boxes, very tight. His new p/up has over 100,000 now. I have looked in them and very little dust if any and no water leaks.

I have a friend with one of these trucks. He loves it. The inside of that tool box part is all poly looking plastic, really tough. So no rust. He uses one side for an ice chest when he goes fishin'. Great idea, a lot better than the ones on the Ford pickups years ago, and what was it, the Nissan pickup had the little one behind the back tire.

Thanks! Can you tell me if the fenders on his truck are plastic or fiberglass, or steel? The salesman said the floor is steel but I couldn't tell the rest just by looking I guess I need to crawl under one to find out. I have two ford ranger pickups - one with a fiberglass bed on it and another one with a steel bed. No comparison the steel bed is almost rotted off and the fiberglass one looks like new. If the whole bed (fenders, sides) on the Ram is fiberglass that is enough to sell me on it.

I'm pretty sure the fenders and bed are steel, I have not heard of any aluminum or fiberglass being used there. I have driven some kind of Dodge pickup most of my life. Of course, they don't have that name on them any more, but Ram will do.

I refuse to send the Italians any more of my money ! They already get enough ever time you walk into case ih New Holland dealerships.

I don't get all the old phart grousing about how it's going to cause rust and blah blah blah...

IT CAN NOT POSSIBLY BE ANY WORSE THAN WHAT WE ALREADY HAVE!

Dodge/Ram trucks are already rusting through on the rear fenders in 5 years around here. They're the worst about it that I've seen from the current crop of pickup trucks. Water and dirt get trapped in between the inner and outer fender panels right over the wheels, and there's no way to get it out.

Rambox can only be an improvement.

My dad just traded his 12 model 2500 with 300k miles on it. The boxes and lids were still fine. I think one light had gone out in the boxes. His new truck doesn't have them and he has already said he misses the ram boxes.
