Wheel bearing Dust caps -

The dust cap on a two trailer I have was destroyed. I bought a package of 1.98" dust caps to replace the ruined cap - no go. The cap is just a "hair" to big to be tapped onto the axle hub. I even tried filing off the outer edge of the lips of the cap hoping to get just enough off to make it fit - no dice. Is there a 1.95-1.92 size out there?

I know 1.98" is supposed to fit the 2" hub is there another smaller size that fits this?

I have know idea what the axle came from - likes like the front axle off an old car or pickup with a solid front axle.

These don't fit.

Put a hose clamp on the cap insert portion and tighten it.
Those caps aren?t seriously strong so it might get just enough
change to get it started.

Tighten it then remove clamp and try it I should have said. If still no fit, try it again but tighter.

Being it was repurposed from something automotive, it could be any odd size.

The universal caps are sized for standard trailer hubs.

About all you can do is try to identify it, a general year and make, try searching a Dorman catalog. Maybe it will have some pictures and dimensions. Probably find the catalog online.

Trailer hub parts, sgricultural hub parts and auto hub parts seldom share the same components with the exception of lug nuts. trailer manufacturers and farm and home stores may have what you need

There is an outfit in my area called Franklin Trailer. Those guys really know their stuff. Try a couple of trailer outfits in your are.they might just pull something right out of a drawer. Couldn't hurt. Try the simple stuff first. Can you take a good one with you? Might be time to change all of them if they stock the part.

I have a old set of axles on my trailer. I can't find a dust cap. I found a tin can that fits just right. and keeps the dirt out. Stan

I found a couple that are 1.943" You can also check the local auto parts stores. If its a good parts guy, there should be a catalog that would make caps easy to search by size, their computers should be able to search by size too.
