Getting rid of musty smell?

I collect 1960's-1970's farm brochures and magazines. I recently bought a stack of "The Farm" magazines that feature some real nice ads and pics. The problem is they have a musty stale smell enough that bothers me alot.It just closes me up as I have some problems with farmers lung. Any ideas how to get rid of it? They have been stacked on the front porch since buying them in Aug. It is a dry clean room. Thanks Tom

Try 'strip' stacking them with a lot of air moving around them. There are commercial products that do the job. Check with your local fire/water damage outfits. HTH

Try a Product called Ozium, its an air sanitizer, I got mine at Advance Auto, other stores may handle it too.

Sir, If you are having nasal " close up " problems with certain odors (mine are menthol cig smoke) I would suggest
a test of the ozium first before purchase. May be a little overpowering. I would suggest a large plastic bag with a sprinkling of corn starch into a few pages, sealing bag and allowing to set for a few hours.
Placing charcoal briquettes in the sealed bag may also be helpful. Good luck, gajac

You probably don't remember, but a month or so back, I posted about getting vaping fluid on my hands at work. The smell got embedded in my sinuses, I could smell that nasty stuff for days!

Seemed like it was on my hands, in my beard, no amount of washing would get rid of it! May have been in my mind, but seemed very real.

I finally overcame it with...

Dryer sheets!

Quite by accident, I was getting dressed one morning, one fell out of my shirt. I picked it up, noticed it had a bit of smell left in it, and noticed that for the first time in days I smelled something other than vaping fluid!

I folded it up, stuck it in my shirt pocket. All through the day I could get a faint smell from it. When I was having a flashback to vaping fluid, I would take the sheet out and hold it to my nose.

Within a few days the bad smell was gone, I no longer needed the dryer sheet.

I've had similar effects from other bad smells. A bad running gas engine, a torpedo heater, certain paint fumes, and cigarettes have had the same effect.

If that's what you experienced from the cigarettes, try the dryer sheet. It worked for me anyway...

Also a very gentle mist of Febreze. That stuff is amazing. Hang a pamphlet in a box upside down so the pages spread. Then mist the box a tad and cover. Give one a try. There are several types of smell and the nicest is linin and the other is AIR. Very slight smell of clothesline dryed fabric. The stuff is not a coverup. It actually works on the stink. You only need a little spritz. The other thing is you need some heat. If you have forced air heat do the same thing and let the heat work on the paper a little. Here are some video and they use baking soda. Hang them on the clothsline into sun, and use a microwave. Test a couple.

Stink.

Spread 'em out in some sort of confined area and zap 'em with an "ozone generator".

That will actually destroy the odor vs. cover it up with some other stink as others are telling you to do.
