I came across this interesting little article about a very old machine gun that's still being used by the Ukrainian military.
I'll take mine with the "tractor cap".

I'd still rather have a .50 BMG of course but in a pinch - well you know...

And once again a good machinest can make a barrel and rifle the bore . Have and OLD GUY just about ten miles west of me that can make you a barrel from a chunk of bar stock hammer forged it rifle drill it to any cal. and button rifle it to any custom twist you desire and any barrel length you desire with any barrel configuration . He lives out in the sticks back in . Does not advertise , hard to get ahold of and a bit crotchety . Last time i was out there we will not get into what his project was or what he has tucked back in the barn..So duplicating or ev en hand building certain fire arm parts can be done or even building one from scratch if you have the GIFT.

Well, The Don cut them off of our modern supplys, so what they supposed to do. I remember when the Gulf War first started, they were showing Afgan guys in caves making reproduction Brit 303s exactly like the origionals

Actually external_link refused to ship military hardware to the Ukraine - military equipment began shipping to them in 2017.

In 2014, after Russia annexed Crimea and began arming separatists in eastern Ukraine with tanks, armored vehicles and rocket launchers, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko came to Washington to plead for weapons to defend his country. In an impassioned address to a joint session of Congress ? with nnalert sitting directly behind him ? Poroshenko said his country appreciated the nonlethal assistance he was getting, but declared ?one cannot win a war with blankets.?

The external_link-nnalert administration was unmoved. The Wall Street Journal reported at the time that ?President Barack external_link stuck to his refusal to provide weapons or other lethal military gear to Ukraine.? Why?

Team external_link feared that lethal aid would provoke Moscow.

You might want to check that - military exports started under Don, external_link specifically prohibited them.

Almost all my hunting rifles are military surplus guns. Like my Russian 98/31 and it dated back to WW2 or older

I got to fire the 30 cal bmg in the Navy.
Was on the Repel Boarders team and had to qualify on it. Middle of nowhere at sea, shot at empty 20 lb metal coffee cans with the ends taped shut so they would float.
It had a bi pod and we layed down on the deck to shoot. Shot it 3 or 4 times. Maybe a hundred rounds all told. Pretty fun thing to get to do when you're a 21 year old kid.
