IH 686 diesel filters

I ordered 2 Fleetguard FS1225 filters for my 686 with the 312 diesel. I just got the Operator's Manual and it is stating that there would be 2 different filters. Can I use the FS 1225 for both stages? The tractor was partially disassembled when I got it and the original filters were removed.

I have used them that way on things that called for it. Typically they are a primary and a secondary. And both will have a different micron of filtration in them.

FWIW, your filters cross to a WIX 33407, (a 20 micron fuel/water separator filter with a 1" - 14 thread).

Wix filter lookup shows your 686 with 312 diesel uses two different filters, a WIX 33341, (a 32 micron fuel filter with a 1" - 14 thread), and a WIX 33336, (a 6 micron fuel filter with a 7/8" - 14 thread).

If this info is correct, you physically can't use both of the filters you have because the secondary fuel filter "head" has a smaller threaded stem where the filter attaches.

So do I need a different filter for the secondary or does the FS1225 have a small enough micron rating to work for secondary filter?

Thanks Bob. I was looking at it last night and thought the threads looked different. I don't have everything cleaned to test fit the filters yet so I couldn't verify.

As I wrote before, if the WIX info is in fact correct, the threaded hole in your filters is too large to thread on to the secondary filter head, so you physically cannot use it.
