Top link question

I need to purchase a top link for my John Deere 4040 and was
wondering if I could use any category II link or if it has to be a
specific one? The top link that is listed on John Deere parts for
the 4040 is very expensive so I?m trying to see if I will be stuck
using this one or is there another recommendation that you
could make. Thanks

Look at aftermarket top links made for the JD 4040. A&I comes to mind first. The tractor mounting hole is different than what the common generic top links have. Also the factory top link has a swivel link on the tractor end, not just a ball. The ball type will not fit some of the 30 and 40 series tractors.

Allstate?s ag parts has a factory style top link for 189$ for a 4040 below serial number 002862 .

A 4040 is an iron horse (more horses more iron )
after the generation 2 which is after the new
generation

I like a hydraulic top link. The one in the photo is a Prince and Dalton also makes one. Handiest thing ever. I did have to make a new bracket (see photo) as the original wasn't deep enough for the hydraulic top link.
