Hi Guys,
Anybody have any experience with this? To make it tractor related, I'm having trouble shifting the 8N with a sore foot. My doctor has diagnosed gout but I am not overweight, eat very little shellfish, red meat, and fatty foods, and have no family history. Having a hard time understanding this situation. Thoughts?

For what its worth the neighbor was diagnosed with gout later it was determind it was lymes desease.good luck with all.

Not fun, I can tell you that! Used to get it regularly when I was younger. Doc prescribed Alopurinol that I have been on for 15 years or so. Now I may get a slight attack once a year or so.
Uric acid buildup in the blood is the cause.

Also certain foods will kick it in. Cauliflower will do it. Funny thing is NOT all cauliflower does it. Some from Mexico but not southern US. One of my big toes went crazy for a couple of days. Also some asparagus types will do it. Just strange. Check the video. Even he says it is a little iffy. Just think back a couple of days and see if you eat something different. Get back to us!
Gout

I was having a lot of pain in my right foot. Doc checked for gout , and decided it is arthritis in the big toe joint. Some cortisone in the joint about once a year and I have been good. (I wonder if I can just fill the bath tub with cortisone for the rest of me.)

I have gout. took a long time to get it diagnosed .an attack will just come out of the blue. wake up in the morning and you wont be able to stand on your foot. just like a million needles poking you. had that last 3 weeks at a time. barely able to walk.it is caused by excess uric acid in your blood that has not been expelled. then this forms tiny crystals and that is what causes all the pain. I have one toe by my big toe that is the same size as the big one due to the cause of gout. I now take allopurinol as a medication. have not had an attack for about 2 years now. red meats and organ meats are the worst thing to eat. shrimp and herring and sardines are bad. alcohol is bad, glucose fructose very bad, plus sugar. kind of have to feel out what works for you. its your body that is not processing the uric acid so you need to get on allopurinol. it gets the ucid under control.

I have occasional bouts (having one today). I can not detect any connection to specific foods and believe me, I have tried to track it back to what I ate. I think there is a stress component, and tend to have flares after some mental stress. I take Cilchicine at first tingle..catch it early! Don't wait. 2 pills, then 1 a few hours later, get up and walk it out. Tylenol helps but don't mix too many meds.
Just my experience.

What all the others have said is my experience over about 3 years. Allopurinol lowers uric acid content, flareups are treated with colchizine.

I have had it a few times in my foot or big toe. Doc prescribed Indocin (https://www.drugs.com/mtm/indocin.html) for the flare up and each time it was gone in a day or two. Really good stuff but a little hard on the stomach.

Then he prescribe Allpurinol (https://www.drugs.com/allopurinol.html) and I have been taking it for 5 or 6 years and I have had no other issues. It neutralizes the uric acid that causes gout. It is cheap, you just have to be religious about taking it, missing doses can cause a flare up.

Hope this is helpful.

My oldest Son has had occasional flare-ups of gout in one of his big toes since he was in his early twenties, back then the Doctor told him cut back on beer, he still has flare-ups in his mid thirties and it is not beer related, he takes a steroid pill for a few days when needed. I have never had gout and do not remember anyone in my family or on my Wifes side that had it so it does not seem to be hereditary.

Like aFfordable said, I had gout and drank 2 oz of Montmorency sour cherry juice daily and it fixed it pretty quickly. Also used the cherry juice to fix my Achilles heel. It reduces inflammation. And it has some Melatonen, so take it at bedtime and get a better sleep...

Different things trigger it for different people. Liverwurst is the worst for me. Shrimp, aspearagas are also bad. Allopurinol every day works for me. When a flare-up happens it is cholchizene and indomethelene. Drink lots of water...

(quoted from post at 18:21:42 02/07/20) Hi Guys,
Anybody have any experience with this? To make it tractor related, I'm having trouble shifting the 8N with a sore foot. I got it for the first time in my ankle last year, doc gave me pills and it was gone in a couple of days. Got it again a couple months later and took pills again...have a bottle here just in case, but so far so good. I think the trick is to take meds before it gets bad.

I get it now and then. Mostly rich food/drink related. 800 mg of Tylenol (doc said it was OK) takes the edge off. Real Cranberry or Dark Cherry juice (the 100% stuff, and not "coctails" of other juices) help reduce the uric acids. Also, keep really hydrated to flush the acids.

When it flares up again, really analyze your diet for the past 3-4 days, and start to learn your unique triggers. Often when I travel for work, too much alcohol & 18 oz steaks seem to be my issue.

You know what... lots of folks are saying cherry juice. Now it rang a bell. My Grandmother would visit durring the summer and take a qt. Masson jar into the fence row. Me and my sister would help her fill that bottle with choke cherries. She would take it home with her and now I might know what she was doing. AHAA!! Folk medicine or a preventive elixir. Maybe I should gather a jar this summer. When they are ripe I take a few and chew on them. 😺

A natural herb tea - Yerba Mate is a great help in keeping gout away, it has many other health benefits as well. I drink it daily and have done so for years. It enhances a general feeling of well-being, mental sharpness etc. You can also put the ground tea leaves in cold water in the evening and by morning you have a black beverage, very common way of doing it in South America (helps keep you cool in high heat). Rich in antioxidants.

I had a case of pseudo-gout in my knee after having it scoped. Absolutely the worst pain I've ever had and nobody could say what it was. Went on for weeks till another surgeon drained and analyzed the fluid to figure out what it was. Not urea but a calcium compound that forms the crystals, but the same effect. He also found a trace of staph infection so it was two months of IV antibiotics four times a day. Fortunately it never came back.

Now 62 first attack at 30 yrs. old. Normal blood test results Dr. prescribed indomethacin which works immediately. Side effect is kidney damage with excessive use now prescribed cholchizine(sp) which dissolves uric acid crystal and not an anti inflammatory. Rare caused by food in my case with stress being culprit. Black tart cherry concentrate is a good preventative. john

I have Neuropathy in my feet. Have been to neurologist but no real answers other than could be from my many years on a certain medication. Did the sour cherry juice once, didn't seem to help. Take nothing now, just living with it.

I do have the Morton's Neuroma in both feet and using padded inserts under the ball area completely alleviates it. Not my current problem.

I thought chicken was one of the good things to eat instead of red meat. I go for chicken first. just wondering.

gout is uric acid in the blood that when the levels get to high will crystalize in the joints. temporary authritis. Ibprofin and keeping it up as much as possible is about all you can do to aleviate the pain. But when attack is over get ahold of your dr have him do a level test and have him prescribe allpurinal. It is a kidney stone gout med. Depending on the level you may only need to take the med temporary or couple times a month.I Rarely have attacks now. I seem to get it if I have tomato juice. Which was hard to give up as I love pasta and tomato juice sometimes with cut up ring bologna or good hotdog.

rustred,

I am not sure... just seemed like she had talked about chicken being an issue for her -- BUT that was a long time ago (and my memory is more worser den it usta be LOL)

Ive had it since I was in my 20?s. What works the best for me is a round of prednisone. Takes the swelling out fast and feels better the next day. Then getting on a maintenance drug like alapurinol will generally keep it under control.

I have had gout for over 20 years, last winter I had the flu and I drank grapefruit juice until I got over it, I really liked the grapefruit juice and have had it with breakfast almost every morning since, in that time, one year, I have not had one gout attack, I do not know if the juice has anything to do with it or not, but it might be worth trying

Several responses recommend cherry juice. One poster mentioned "trying it once" without success. With that kind of 'remedy', you really have to keep it up to see any benefit. I've had excellent results from coconut water. I buy one that has mango juice mixed in for flavor. One 12oz. glass per day does it for me- your mileage may vary...
