Patio Cover

I have a large patio (slab) next to my barn.
I had a local company come and make me an estimate for a 15' x 35' aluminum patio cover.
Cover will be connected to barn eave and will have four support posts and will have gutter with two down spouts.
I was surprised that the estimate was $7,000 !
Does this sound like the average cost?

Yes Jiles sounds about right, but the cost is the fact you are saying four post. Took a lot more
framework to make that. In a light weight like carport where they use the round bows the strength to
somewhat is they run the metal longways and use regular strong barn metal panels . Most times
length there is around 24 ft. Any of that custom metal stuff like you are proposing gets more
expensive. On yours was the water running with the long ways or the slope side to side? I would be
Leary of building a 35 ft one without more post. Four post just made for a long span. I would
venture to say if you could live with say 4 post to the side cost would come down couple thousand.

The 35' length will be connected to barn, with cover sloping out 15' with four support post .

IF that is the case seems to me just a simple lean to , sound high to me also, I was thinking
running long ways, yes I would look some more. Can,t be over 3 thousand in materials including the
gutters, definitely high .

Sounds outrageous to me, but I'm sure the fact that it will be aluminum raises the cost a lot. If you could get by with wood framing and painted steel roofing, the cost of materials around here would be less
than $1,500, and 2 guys could build it in a day.

Any snow and/or wind load requirements in your area? If so, with the span needed for only four posts, these requirements would make for a significant amount of bracing. jal-SD

You call it aluminum and patio cover, in south alabama and all over florida that price is about right.
Because it might be more of a residential added on lean-to with standing rib aluminum roof panels.
To clear span 15 feet they could be quite substantial.

Big price difference between aluminium residential and steel farm use types.

Just went through this last fall here in Tn. Had 3 estimates all of which were within $500 of each other. I decided to purchase a 10ft. x 36 awning from a supply house and install myself. The cheapest estimate I had was $5200. Mine also attached on one side and had 4 support post with built in gutter. I gave almost $2800 tax included for the awning and hired a guy to help me install. It took most of a day and I had around $3200 invested when finished. So I would think the price you have is in line.

I sell a product like what you describe.
Our supplier is a company from North
Carolina called Superior-Mason. If what
you're looking at is similar to ours than
that is a good price. They are engineered
for your wind and snow loads, and are
virtually maintenance free. There are some
in this town 40 years old and still going.

I added a 13'x48' to the back of my big barn in 2006. My 2 boys and I did the work and the total cost was $1,200. I attached to the roof for height for potential motor home parking. Had I attached under the eaves it would have been much easier. Heck, the kit for the tall barn only cost $6,000 in 2002.
