Gleaner combine help

I?ve been trying for awhile to find a gleaner 330 black corn
head for my k2. I though my search was over after finding one
but after doing some measuring it?s 10 inches to big which
leads me to the conclusion that it?s for an f2, which I feel
would be odd using a 3 row head on an f2 but that?s none of
my business. My question is can I make this head fit my
combine without fabrication?

An old product guide shows the F2 accepting a 3 row head so most likely that is what you have. Kelly's Garage over in Perry, NY is just about the only servicing dealer in the area for AGCO products and had a long affiliation with Allis Chalmers so maybe somebody there knows the answer. There were a couple K2's around years ago but have been gone for a while. If I think of something else I will reply back.

Yes the 330 was available for the F/F2. But it shouldn't have been, as even with 18.4 tires, you can't hardly fit the combine between the unpicked rows.

The black, A series headers were made to fit multiple model combines. BUT, the "attaching", or finishing bundle sent with a new header, was particular to combine model. There might be filler sheets. Drives/jackshafts/sprockets, etc. would be different. I think the biggest challenge in putting a header on a K2 would be getting the drive from the narrow K2 throat to the header. I can't remember how that was accomplished. The manuals were pretty good about laying out all the pieces and parts in attaching bundles. If you could get a hold of a manual, it might be instructive.

Been a while since I saw heads advertised for conventional Gleaners. Seems to me that I remember heads advertised as having F/K mounts. I know you would see heads advertised with L/M mounts. We did have a F and then a M and M2. When we got the first M we wound up putting a JD head with a adapter we bought used from a guy who had a L. Only difference was I had to move the hooks in so the M could hook up. After that I started looking at gleaner heads and saw that there was separate slots and mounts for L and M combines. Check and see if that is the case with the F/K, might just be you need to move the hooks and thats it.

On a side note if this deal falls through seriously consider a Bish type adapter plate and using a IH or JD head. We ran orange heads with the F and got a A series head with the first M. Getting it ready to go to the field I realized they were kinda a POS, built way to light in my opinion. Ran that head over 80 acres till I had a wet spell to buy a JD head and get it mounted. That was over 20 years ago and I am still running that JD head, it is on its third combine (IH 1660 now).

Contact Oakley combine in Oxford N.C. they specialize in gleaner combines no matter the age

I saw one 3 row header set up for an F. Don?t know how it fit down the rows. They did make a 6 row for an F as well. Would be unloading every 1/3 of a round I?d think!

Most of the 4 row heads were set to fit an F or the slightly wider G with some strips of tin for filler. Not every header would convert tho, some had rigid welded top hooks. The convertibles had bolted down top hooks.

I just wasn?t around enough 3 row heads to know how those were handled. I should look through my manuals tomorrow, if there is any info. This is what you asked and I?m zero help.

I believe that the L2/M2 had something on the order of a 1 3/8 21 spline shaft with a slide coupler. I want to say the K2/F2 were the same. Somebody like Baum Hydraulics may have a short piece of shaft stock that could be integrated into the assembly but that is more cost. I could be mistaken but finding a 3 row 30 inch header ready to go for a K2 will be a tall order. The larger portion of the few K2's I saw only had grain heads with them as the owners did not grow any corn. The OP could call Boak Farms in Western PA as they jockeyed older Gleaner heads but that is more cost to get it moved. As far as finding a JD 343 head goes it will most likely be the same battle to find one even if you can come up with an adapter.
