Dozer arrived.

few weeks ago I asked for shipping advice, having JD 550G moved from WV to Tenn. - 555 miles for $1450. Followed Jon's advice & took a chance on broker Fr8Star finding a backhaul. It worked out as the dozer left WV yesterday, came today in a smooth delivery. Trailer hauling it was a dropdeck & they can't turn in any less than 40 acres or take a few steep hills so I trammed it a mile home on to gravel county road. Thanks for all the advice.

oh yeah! Been trying off & on for 10 years. Just couldn't find anybody by myself. Helps to have nationwide assistance.

Glad it worked out for you.

Every one that has done this long enough has a horror story about brokers but when you consider the amount of freight that moves everyday it is a small percentage.

Like I said before with all the regulations and insurance the feds make us carry your biggest fear should have been the broker under bid the job and would not be able to find a truck to take it. Even then all you lost is time.

Even though I have been burned by brokers before I would much rather deal with them than a one man farmer operation hauling stuff on the weekend. Especially with a permit load when you know the DOT will be checking the paperwork all along the way.

And for those that ask what it should cost to haul a tractor.

On average.......

This load paid $1450. The broker took 20% or $290. The truck got 80% or $1160. That is $2 a mile or $1110 and $50 to cover the permits. Of this $1160 the driver got about $300 of it. And this was for a over width permit load.

We have a local towing company that moves all kinds of heavy equipment and large bulky items. I've had them move a couple large pieces of equipment quite a distance and across state lines quite reasonably.

Sounds like a good price. In '02 I had a D7 shipped 1200 miles for $1100 if I recall. Fast forward to now, for a tractor worth buying, like your 550, I'd gladly pay that. There was a mid 80's low hour, one owner 550 for sale locally about a year ago, was in very nice condition all around, think it was 18K, I kind of regret not going for it. Undercarriage was very nice.

Strange. I have never had any trouble getting right in & using the site & I'm terrible with a computer.

It keeps coming back that my email is already registered and I ever wrote to them but never heard back I think I?ve been hacked

That was cheap enough. I would not have done an oversize for that price. Most of mine stuff was that price for legal loads then up from there depending on the piece/s the wider or higher the more it cost. Once it got to pilot cars the price really jumped. Some of the cars would make almost as much as I did.

Ya negative publicity gets the most attention! For the most part I've had good luck with brokers, small problem this week, took load down by Dallas then was to get load from south of Fort Worth to take to Denver, broker messed up and gave the wrong pu#! Call to my boss then he called the broker and had it fixxed in thirty minutes, so wasn't a big deal!

SVcummins, are you registered for Tractor House, Auction Time, or any of those services?

If you are, I believe fr8star shares the same account information.

Regardless, you can click on "forgot password" to take control of your account.

well my last fling of the big ugly stuff that i hauled paid vary well and usually over 8 bucks a mile and higher.. made for nice weekly take home pays at 30 % drivers wages . Only used escorts a couple times . I enjoyed the challenge of hauling . Truly enjoyed moving tire presses , just under needing escort and only 68000 and change on the deck and only 14.4 high . Usually took three days from load to unload . Load on Tuesday morning and if i had the day light i could make it over half way there before curfew , next day drop the load at the plant and go to the truck stop for the night . Next morning untarp and back in the plant next to where the press was to be set in the line they would pick it up and i would pull out . The rigging crew would help me gather up all my junk and i would make one phone call and be headed for the next load and on to the house . I delt with one broker down close to where the presses went and she would have me a fantastic load heading back towards the house for a Monday drop. On the off week i was kept vary busy with Gradalls out of the plant and there i was able to load and go at any time i got there ,i was the only one allowed to load and go with no help . That was fantastic hauling . Most were a bit heavy but were legal size . Like i said MOST . I did move one that was not . She was 15.5 wide 15 .6 tall with 12 foot sticking out the back and 79 and change setting on the deck going to Ne. That load was a sight seeing tour , Took a full day and a halt to get thru Ohio , the next day was spent getting thru In. and the next day Il, Iowa and a half day to the mine in Ne. That load was laced with all kinds of problems First night when i pulled into a truck stop as i set the brakes the tractor protection valve let go and had to have my escort take me to a I H dealer for a new one and replace that . I got four hours of sleep , the next night i lost all the lights on the trailer and had to replace the main trailer wires from the neck to the back .The next night i had and air bag start leaking and had to replace that , next morning when i did my walk around i looked up and my disco lights were out . The only good thing was the weather was good.

It didn't go as a wide load. They angled the blade enough so that it fit the trailer exactly. I helped unchain it at the blade so I saw that myself. I also thought it would stick over a few inches & they would skate by without a wide load but it fit the drop-deck trailer.

Quite a big risk for the pilot car on a big oversize move when you think of it . If he says go and you hit a bridge or hit a car it wouldn?t be good . That?s what that 5020 isn?t coming home on the back of my rig
