Guinea hen foot fell off

What would have cause a guinea hens foot to fall off. We got her about a month ago in a flock of rescue birds. She was fine then she started walking more on the backs of her feet. Then yesterday her foot fell off. No blood but the end of the bone came out with the foot. Put her down today as her other foot is starting to do the same thing and can't get around on nubs.
Thanks

Frozen would be the most obvious thing, but it would have to be real cold for that to happen. My chickens sleep in below zero every year, as most chickens do, and never have an issue. Were they on a metal roost?

Frostbite. She might have been OK with that if kept in a pen or at least locked up at night. We had a buff Orpington many years ago who was very susceptible to that and ended up losing all her toes. She would teeter a bit if she stopped too fast. Then one day she managed to wander down to where I was trying to trap a raccoon and stepped in the trap trying to steal the bait. That messed up one leg bad enough so she could only use it for a crutch. I should have shot her but she was happy and eating and laid a few eggs every week. Don't know how she survived the night in that trap as I found her in the AM. Surprisingly she lived a long life. We named her "Lucky" after the night in the trap. Looking back I bet we have gone thru thousands of chickens. I don't remember many of them, but I remember her.
