What model? A lot of people bad mouth them, mostly people that never owned any.I have several of the Fiat built and a R9500 which is a Landini they have been good reliable tractors for me.Parts for the Fiat ones are easy to find and very reasonably priced.

I have no idea about it. I just found out about it about an hour ago. Since I have really retired. I get to look at alot of things(JUNK)

Longs of the 70's and 80's were mostly built in Romania, straight cut gears, romanian engines, nothing fancy by any means, bushhog, rake hay, garden work and other chore work they were as dependable as the next cheap tractor, many people who had them may have expected more than what they wound up with but they were intended for the lower end of the market, now days those tractors bring very small money, about like an 8n. Some of the later longs had many more features and upgraded engines, we had a dealer for years so quite a few around, but even the Zetor built longs and others don't bring any money at auction, whatever the tractor is you are going to look at figure 1/4 to 1/3 the price of comparably equippped and condition Green, Red or Orange.

Never hurts to look.Went with a friend to look at a buck goat he wanted ended up buying my Oliver 1365 from the goat owners,20 years ago still running the tractor.

I recently picked this one up from a customer who was ready for a compact.

I really like it, simple tractor and easy on fuel, less than a gallon an hour running a six foot chopper

There were a good many Long tractors around here in the late 70's and 80's - especially in western NC (tobacco country) where my mother is from. I guess they are OK tractors - the line for me is mulit-fold on these. First is - can you get parts, second is - can you get someone to work on them that has a clue about what they are looking at and third - can you get internet forum support from such sites as YT and others. Lastly - if the price is low enough, who care about the above, you're not out of a lot of $$$ and may be worth taking a chance. As I dabble/consider various makes and model tractors for our farm and with respect to all of the above, I'm liking MF tractors more and more every day.

YMMV

Good luck,
Bill

I bought a 55 hp, (Universal Romanian) 560 Long new in '78 as my main tractor. Dealer told me that if I were to go over it weekly and tighten up any loose bolts it would give me good service; he wasn't lying. Fuel economy was superb, burned less than half what the neighbor's JD did. Comfortable, maneuverable, quiet and grief free. Wish now I hadn't sold it but after the cows went I didn't really have a use for it. had 10,000 hours on the clock, no smoke, started right up winter or summer and I never did a single repair to it, changed fluids and filters regularly and put ne tires on it at one point; best tractor I ever owned for the money.

Long tractors were fairly popular around here at one time . Our JD dealer sold them after Mother Deere pulled his ag franchise and left him a ?consumer products ? dealer. My neighbor had a good sized 4wd Long they really liked. As mentioned they were a cheaper tractor when new and don?t bring a lot of money now. I would say based on what I know about them from local people who owned them- if you find one in decent shape and reasonably priced I would buy one. Everyone I know who owned one was generally satisfied with them.

Well that was a wasted trip.
445 or 6 can't really tell.Paint is really bad.
3 flat tires
Injector pump and injector are missing.
Starter is in the mud.
Block has a hole in it. Not a crack but a hole.
Then he ask me if I could restore it. I told him just go buy another tractor. It will be cheaper.
I don't think he liked my answer.

I was at a remote site. When the land owner ask me if I wanted. To see something. I had time so why not. We drove out to his barn in the back pasture.I found a fully restored Civil Defence Chrysler siren. 331 180 hp.He took me into his shop behing the test pad. Cranked it up. Ear plugs and muffs on and you could feel it. He restores them.It was something to see and feel.

"Everyone has different experiences,I've run Long and MF tractors if I buy a MF it'd have to be dirt cheap."

Not surprised...

very well kept, never painted. the 6 foot cutter was part of the purchase. It was a tractor that I had serviced a couple of times for the owner. Owner contacted me and set the price which was less then the amount that I would have paid for a new after market 6 foot cutter by it self.

If you close to the side of the grill the original dealer emblem is still visible.

My Dad bought a Long 360 new. We bent the drawbar with a JD 350 cycle bar mower attached. He turned the drawbar over until it was straight and traded it>
P.S. The power "assist" steering will make you think you're driving a 1960 Greyhound bus!!

Dad said we had power steering on our old IH tractors.
Your Left hand
Your Right hand.
Power brakes ment how hard you could step on the brake pedal.
And Hope.

Long Agribusiness was located in Tarboro NC, they sold imported tractors under their label until they where purchased by the Escort Group of India in 1998 and the name was changed to Farmtrac.
Prier to the purchase Escort built Ford tractors for the India market, Farmtrac is a combination of Ford and Long component designs.
Farmtrac USA filed for bankruptcy in 2008 and was purchased by Montana Tractors who sold off the remaining inventory under the Montana Limited name before discontinuing those models.

I've done a little research on this as I have a Montana Limited/Farmtrac 555 in my shop replacing the engine with one from a Ford.

A neighbor had a 460 Long years ago, good tractor other than hydraulic pump issues he had with his.
