I have a 1955 Ford 860 equipped with a Sherman Napco 4wd conversion. I'm wondering if anyone has ever seen one before, or if anyone happens to have one. I know there are not many out there, but trying to see whats still around. I have some advertisements for the conversion for documentation as well as the shop manual and parts manual.

The tractor in that post has the Elenco conversion on it. The Sherman Napco is similar, but is not the same as an Elenco. There are more Elenco conversions than Sherman Napco conversions.

I have seen Napco versions on industrial models, backhoes, I'd have to scroll through a lot of photos I've saved off the web to find an example, but recall one I asked about here years ago, on the Ford forum. I don't believe they are all that common, compared to Elenco, but that is just based on watching ads over many years.

I was unaware that Sherman- Napco made a Ford tractor 4wd conversion. I have seen Elenco conversions and Napco 4wd conversions on 1950?s era pickups which were sold before the trucks had factory 4wd available (except for Willys Jeep and Dodge power wagons). I would say that you have a fairly rare tractor.

Found this doing a google search. Appears there is a Sherman-Napco facebook group. I am not on facebook, but was able to find it. Doesn't look like much activity when he asked about the tractor use of that application.

That's pretty funny, that is the Ford 850 tractor I bought and pulled the Sherman Napco kit off of to put on my Ford 860. The picture was one I posted back when I first brought it home. I still have the picture on my photobucket account. I'll have to pull some of the pictures off of photobucket of the swap.

I would say the Elenco is a little beefier than the Sherman. I also have an Elenco, and side by side the Elenco front axle and hubs seem a little bigger overall. The Elenco has a triple roller chain drive case, and the Sherman has a double roller chain drive case. The double chain on the Sherman does allow for the pto engagement lever to stay in the original location.
