John Deere model N manure spreader

I have what I believe is a John Deere model N manure spreader. It is the four wheel horse drawn model with both hitches. Got it from a
neighbor who is moving to town, sad. IT has set around for about three years. IT is in good shape over all, but the drive side wheel, is
stuck, it will roll backward, but not forward. Seems to be stuck pretty good. Is there any guidance anyone can provide on how to begin to
address repair this? The axle seems to be frozen or rusted in place. Thanks. Would love to use this with horses and a small old B John
Deere.

I have an N and the N model is stamped in the front metal plate. It is ground driven by 2 R1, maybe 28" wheels with maybe 6" wide tires. The slingers are PTO driven and the floor scraper that moves the product to the slingers at the rear is ground driven with a "0 to max" lever, conveniently located so that the tractor operator can reach back and set the desired flow rate.

There is a built in hand crank that once the weight in on the tractor drawbar, the crank can be pulled straight up and self locks.

So, what's your question?

One place to start is a good size can of kroil.give it a spray a couple of times a day and cross your fingers. Sounds as if the hub is frozen or the grease is totally gunked to the axle and the over ride clutch is working. Making some guesses but sounds like what you have. Have also seen were a darn good high pressure grease gun with a little flame heat will bust it loose. Keep us informed.

JD horse drawn manure spreader is definitely not a model N because as Mark stated the widespread is pto driven. I agree with Tom that it could be a model HH or possibly a model K. Does it have metal wheels or rubber tires? Can you please post some photo's?

Mine is a four wheel ground driven manure spreader, all the sides and floors are wood.
When I try to move it three wheels move and turn well. The fourth the rear drive wheel
will turn backwards, but not forward, it is either frozen or rusted so it will not turn.

It has been over 50 years since I worked on an old Deere spreader but if I remember right the wheel bearings are straight caged rollers? If so it might be best to remove the big ol cotter pin and pull the wheel off. If it does have roller bearings you will have a hard time finding a replacement if it is messed up.

(quoted from post at 19:06:00 01/16/20) Will try get some pictures posted tomorrow. It is four wheel with rubber tires. So is it an HH?

It appears from viewing parts catalogs that HH & K had metal sides & floor. It could be model E or ET as they both had wood floors & sides

The M is the 4 wheel version of the L. If his spreader is green and styled like the N,R ect that is most likely what he has. A Google image search would help confirm it. Like posted below he needs to jack it up and remove the cotter pin on the stuck side and start sliding thing apart untill the problem is found. Tom

Hey guys got the manure spreader home it is a model M. Thanks for the suggestions on freeing up that axle.
It has been cold here, someone thought it might even free up when it warms up a bit.
