I saw in a reply to a post below you are going to pick up a ton of coal. You said the price almost doubled to 90 bucks. Was that really a per ton price ? I burn coal to heat the house. Nut coal. Usually around 4 ton per year. Here in western New York I pay around 260 a ton for bagged and 240 a ton for bulk ! I do also have an oil boiler as a back up. I would love to heat our home for 5 plus months on 90 dollar a ton coal !

hi, I just got home now from a 4 hr drive round trip. the coal is 50.00 per ton plus 35.00 carbon tax. picked up just under a ton and I paid 79 dollars and change. this is called "stove coal" as it is from 4" to 6" lumps. the coal is mined right there pretty much on site to say. its called" Dodd's Coal MINE" at Riley Alberta Canada. you could even look it up on line pretty sure. he loaded 2 1/2 skid steer buckets on my 1/2 ton.

That is crazy cheap ! I pay almost 3 times as much ! There is none cheaper around here !

I burn Pea coal which is 3/4" minus here in NH. The stove feeds it by gravity automatically from a hopper. We knife it 2-3 times a day and feed it 20 lbs once a day. it provides probably a third of our heat annually for around $400.00. We spend around $1800 for heating oil. We got the coal from the same source for thirty years, but had to go to a different one two years ago. We found that the coal from the new source produces way less ash and we are burning around 3-4 lbs less per day and we pay 75% of what we used to.. Both sources are in NE PA and it is anthracite.

I have a similar stove. Gravity fed. I have tried pea coal and it does
work pretty good in my stove also. My stove is in the basement, and I
typically go through a little less than 1 40 pound bag per day. We also
have a fairly new high efficiency oil boiler for when the coal stove can't
keep the house warm enough ! I don't go through all that much oil. Maybe
300 gallons a year.
