MACK AC Bulldog. Low geared chain drive, and Armstrong steering like you
wouldn't beleave. Remember this. If that truck is rated at 7 1/2 tons that
means it can be over loaded to 7 1/2 tons. Full load is close to 15 tons. Back
then they didn't mess around. The truck my dad had, belonged to Sterling flour.
Hope that is correct. Up in NYC. I will need to pull the photos out someday.

It looks like a cable connected on the front each side for an assist pull on the front for that heavy load.

Angle iron, I see one on the rear too. I am not familiar with assist pull. They look like just plain old load securement to me.

Either the driver got out and relieved himself while the photographer got a picture from the other side, or its that rear-mounted radiator taking a leak?

Big Tee, that is a good one!!! I have driven Mack dump trucks quite a lot. They can probably haul more than a "Pete" but the problem is to get it where it needs to go.

Showcrop I was looking at the front of the truck just forward of the head light on the tow ring where a normal front bumper is today. Not the trailer load if that was what you were referring to.

OK, I see those cables, and now I know what you mean by assist pull. It must mean that they had to pull a hill somewhere ahead. 15 years ago a transformer twice as big as whatever is in the pic went through my town. They had three tractors on it and probably three hundred tires.

Did those guys on top use those planks to lift hot electric lines to get under?

Where is the YT DOT????

Leo, if you are out on the road much you will see plenty of over height loads with boards secured low at the front and bent up over to run the wires up and over.
