I have a 1965 656 International that I use for brush hogging. Problem,,, I want to speed up the PTO (mower) without speeding up the tractor. I need to mow at a slower mph while mower is running at higher rpm. Ant suggestions? Thanks, Cig

It is what it is. If you are in 1st gear and it is STILL not slow enough without idling the engine down, there's nothing you can AFFORDABLY do to that tractor to make it run any slower.

The only thing you can do to that tractor is install SIGNIFICANTLY smaller rear tires. I'm not talking about downsizing from a 16.9x38 to a 15.5x38. I'm talking about going from 38" rims to 28"-30" rims. This will reduce your ground speed but it will also reduce your ground CLEARANCE under the rear end. It will get stuck much more easily.

agree on that! maybe needs a crawler or chipper, can only do what the machine is designed for.

Either the mower is too large or the ground speed is too fast. Could
be your expectation of the mowing job requires a finish mower. Just
thoughts

Change final drive ratio.

Change gear ratios in the transmission.

Smaller diameter tires.

Those are the most obvious ones that I can think of. More information would be helpful.
