They had lot's of money before the show ever happened.

I thought that was pretty cool Otto put them on the tractor. It actually got me interested to see more about them. So I got online and did a search, and it brought me on here. Plus other sites.

Their family homestead is 600 something acres, his dad started the homestead as an immigrant from Switzerland before WWII, he was granted 160ac. His dad also helped write the State Constitution and later became a Senator. The family has had a some fame and success before the show. His brother is a known musician in the AK, and also the Father of the famous musician, Jewel. Otto has a net worth of around 5 million dollars, I'd say he's a pretty smart fellow, and businessman.

Jewel starred in a good movie I just saw "Ride with the Devil". Its about the Civil War in Missouri some where around where 'old' lives.

My uncle had a set of those made by Arps and he put them on a JD 70 gas tractor. I remember them on the tractor. I think he got them because it was really wet one year and they used them to pick corn.
