Minnesota. It is a Christmas Cactus and indoors. The tile in the background is travertine I used to surround my fireplace. Jim

Very nice Christmas or Thanksgiving cactus. Tropical plant. My Mom had several and I still have them. You need to maintain them a little. Repot and also trim the roots now and then. Yours is a compound or double bloom. Pretty!

Hey sweetfeet, my moms are several colors but this orange is one of the newest. Gotta get me one of these. Not cheap. Go check at your local home depot. They had a bunch of them a week or two ago. Reasonable price too. At the Philadelphia flower show there are a couple of monsters on display. I would bet they weigh 150 lbs. or more. One was displayed on a three leg set of pipes like lifting a car engine.

Wow, Jeffcat. I had no idea.

I like the orange one too.

Are they tough to keep alive and thriving?
Just wondering, because I do well with outdoor gardening... but I have a tendency to kill off house plants.

Sounds like my kind of plant. I just told our daughter to remind me to buy one. Now to decide the color... hmmm.

I agree with the post below about water. They need to drain. These are also pretty easy to propagate. Just stick a piece in water for a little bit. It will develop air roots and they will turn to regular roots when you "plant" it. I might be messing the terms up on this one because these are a bit different plant. Red and pinks are very common. They are also the most hardy. They like subdued light. They can sunburn if overdone. Hope you get a couple and have fun. Look on Utube for how to raise them.

Nice, It reminds me of when I bought my house from my grandfather. The back room was set up like a greenhouse. at 89 he wasn't as observant so the greenhouse was a jungle of Christmas cacti.
Thanks for the flashback.
