Farmall AV exhaust lift

I restored the Exhaust Lift on a friends Farmall AV. The problem I am having after several weeks after completion is the washer in the control valve. I did find a new washer for the control valve but after a while something in the gas is attacking the washer. The washer gets very soft and distorted. It gets so distorted that the little brass plate that sits on this washer and acts as a check valve will no longer seal. I got another new washer at $30.00 and tried it again with the same results. I am thinking about machining a brass washer to take the place of the neoprene washer. Any help or ideas will be appreciated. Merry Christmas.

No experience with these at all, Just wondering if you are using E-10 gas and would that have something to do with your problem?? Chris

how about replacing it with a brass washer the ""rubber"" type may not be accepting the exhaust gas heat. the bras washer may need to be brazed in or pressed in.Just a thought.

I have been using those systems for many yrs an the gas has nothing to do with the washer warping. Making a brass one will not seal as that's why the rubber washer was used if it gets hard over the yrs it will not seal. Wonder if the new one was made with some material that warps.Does it get hard or still soft even if some warpage happens the brass usually will still seal. Does the washer bow up or down. Have you used some sandpaper to make the washer flat again. Thought about making one out of rubber as I found a piece an made one an it worked. 30 bucks a crack is not fun.Could the timing be off enough to raise the exhaust temp too much. keep us informed

Gene: The washer gets soft and warps up so the brass disk will not lay flat on the washer. As you suggested, making one myself may be what I do next. I think the washers I am buying are no more than hose washer material and will not take the heat and exhaust fumes. Thanks for your suggestion.
